The new struts change the point where the weight of the hood/trunk gravity takes over. So yes it closes with less force and therefore is slower. The point to this is that the hood/trunk should stay open in a good stiff breeze and not slam shut at the slightest movement. Getting nailed in the back of the head when you don't expect it is not fun and considering the cost, a good investment.
Strutwise makes beautiful struts. I regret having not found them when I replace mine.

That has been my thought.
I really like the fact that there is a place to buy custom shocks and they seem to come with really good reviews as well.
I will look them up.
Thanks for all the input everyone.
As usual I sure do appreciate it!

Yeah dude - your struts are shot. Very common. You're lucky your '05 struts made it this far. My '06 struts went bad a couple of years ago, making both my hood and trunk a damn guillotine.

I went with StrongArms for replacements and I couldn't recommend them any higher. A few bucks more than stock ones (and you know how bad those suck), but not as much as some of the custom ones I think. And now both my hood and trunk will lift themselves after I start the first few inches - and they hold firm as can be.

As far as closing the trunk - the "correct" way to close it is to hold the trunk a couple inches above the latch and drop it. I believe this is actually how the manual describes it - believe it or not. Bad design if you ask me.

If you notice, there is only one strut, if any, on the newer cars because of "hood warping" issues. Most of the problems come from people grabbing the hood and forcing it to the over center point instead of letting the strut compress slowly. Just be selective on the struts you buy and careful with the new struts.

I emailed Strutwise and got a response. They are $35 per strut for stainless steel. Pretty good deal but not sure if that is what I want to spend for the trunk.
I can see spending that if I have a trunk full of stereo equipment to show off or to put on my hood if I have a dressed up fancy motor like all of you.
Oh well... Just another decision
I have to make.
I swear this never ends!

No it never dose but it's is quite fun. But if you do decide to do a trunk full of Sterio equipment just think you will have done the shocks already and won't have to worry aout it . also on a serious note 35 for shocks is a lot better than if the lid closes on sombodys hand or head . just my .02c

Honestly $35 each isn't bad at all. I keep talking myself out of "better things" because I just went through a divorce but there also comes a time that I have to get my life back to normal and buying this car was the first chapter!
There are so many things I want to do to this car. Some may be little and trivial to some but not to me.
Tax season will be fun!
