I decided to remove my side moulding today and all went fairly well until i got the car cleaned and still noticed slight discoloration on both front doors. The area where the trim was seems to be darker then the rest of the door. I've tried wet sanding a little and polishing but its still very noticeable. The rear doors look perfect, but only the front doors have this issue. I'm looking for any advice on how to proceed besides taking it to the shop and getting it repainted or something. I've got a 2010 300c with Dark Titanium color.
Thanks in advance. Photobucket Link 1 Photobucket Link 2
Damn, that's pretty drastic! I was just talkin about doing that on my bright silver 06... Now I don't know.
As far as a fix for you? That's a tough one man. If your paint is faded that bad and you repaint the entire doors I may be tough to match the rest of the car.
Curious. What state are you in?
Well one solution is to add the side moulding again. I'm headed to my sisters body shop today and will ask what can be done. I have no clue when it comes to body work.
Thanks for the tips so far. I'm in Canada, Toronto more precisely. I was thinking of trying to wet sand thebrwst of the door. Looking at it more closely it seems like the entire door received a clear coat while the trim was on. So I'm wondering ofnwet sanding might remove enough clear coat to match up.

I actually tought about that, but it looks so sharp (from a distance right now anyways). Thanks for the inquiry. If its not too pricey I may try and find someone local to do it here.

If it was clearcoated when the trim was on, it's not the OEM paintjob. Trim goes on AFTER the paint. Are you the original owner?
The fix for you if it was repainted is another paint job which will probably get you too close to the maximum paint thickness for a good surface for any kind of future paint job.
For those of you with 2005 to early 2006 models, there is a risk that the paint underneath is orange peeled from the factory. In some cases the trim went on too soon after paint. The drivers side front fender seems to be a common area so peel the trim off there first If it has orange peeled, put the trim back on or be prepared for a paint job. Orange peel cannot be fixed by buffing.
I've "de molded" a few 05-06 300s and have noticed that the lighter colors are more likely to have problems.

I was not the original owner. I'm third I believe. Rental first then private owner then me. Do you think wet sanding the excess clear coat would work?
