Oil sending unit code

I need some help with a problem with my oil sending unit switch. I had my engine light come on and I had it checked. It stated my oil sending unit was bad. I took it to a shop and he put a new one in. I got the car back and within 15 minutes my light came back on. I had it checked and it coded that oil sending unit again. I called the mechanic and he stated that if it wont stay off then it is the main computer. The car runs fine, the oil pressure is good. It is just the light comes on and it shows one code, bad oil sending unit.

Does anybody have any advise for me? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Sometimes, after a code has been registered by the PCM (main computer), it can take 3 or more key cycles (On/Off/On x 3 or more times) and running the car a bit for the code to not come back.

One other way to clear the code is to pull your PCM/AutoShutOff fuse in the underhood fuse box. Check your manual for the right main computer fuse position.

Hello MADDOG,

Well I finally got around to pulling out that fuse and it worked. I was just about to let you know that it did when the light came back on.

I was just wandering, after pulling that fuse do I need to go down and have the codes deleted right afterward?

There is nothing wrong with the car or engine. It runs great. Now that I finally got my tires replaced my mpg went back up.

I would like to know your thoughts on this. Thank you

Hello,
Sorry, I have been gone so long. I thought I would have more time since I have retired, not so.
Anyway, I tried that fuse trick 4 times and each time the light would come back on just a little quicker. The light is still on and nobody has been able to figure it out. When we read the code it still states 3 oil pressure switch codes. It pretty much states that the oil pressure switch has a low reading.I checked the evic reading on the dash and it states the oil pressure at idle is 45 and will rise as speed rises.

I really hate to take to a dealership because, they will take it and keep it for days looking for the problem and if they do find it finally it will cost a fortune. Any other advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Hello,

Well, I just wanted to let you know that I am still driving the car and nothing has happened yet. The light is still on and the readout is stating that there is a low voltage at the sending unit. It is still driving okay and the oil pressure is reading about 35 at idle. I guess if I do not hear anything else to try on here I will just keep driving it until something happens. I do not know what else to do. I want to thank everybody that helped me though. I am still here if anybody can come up with anything though.

Hi Dumafach,

I know you said in a previous post you weren’t too sure about going to the dealership, but if you do decide to go, let me know. Happy to follow up!

Hello, I appreciate your post.

I do not want to do any damage to the car. As with everybody else I have had my experiences with dealerships but, I have also had some good ones and one of them was Moore Chrysler in Tulsa. I may have to end up going back there because it is bothering me that the light is still on. If I can do it soon I will let you know how it goes.
