So, I drive a 2012 Chrysler 300, v6. I thought I was having problems with my altinator. After a closer look it seems a wire completely shorted and crumbled that leads from my altinator and battery. We have replaced the wiring, but now my car screen tells me to press the clutch before starting.... my car is an automatic....???? I don't know how to fix the issue or bypass it to get my car started.... has anyone else has this issue??
Two days ago my car bumper was backed into. My grill fell out but very minor damage. Could this possibly be related?
So the problem started when the alternator wires were replaced? Have you since checked the connections to ensure they are tight and getting good contact on both ends of the ground and positive?
have you tried disconnecting the battery, and draining the residual power from the system by hold the positive and negative wires that were removed off the battery? *please note this may enter your radio into lockout mode*
As far as the accident causing this, did the accident happen before or after the wires were replaced?
Thanks for replying! The accident happened before the wire had to be replaced. Could be a coincidence, but I'll find out in a couple of weeks when I bring it to the body shop.
We fought with the problem for a long time. We replaced some fuses and a couple of relays and the problem went away .
Happy it wasn't anything serious!! Very strange problem though lol...
