Sunroof will not open

I have a 2005 300C and suddenly (ironically after washing/waxing) the sunroof will not open (up or back) - no movement what-so-ever. I thought it may be a fuse, but I checked the manual and no where in the manual does it identify which fuse the sunroof is on, nor any other info related to the sunroof for that matter. Prior to taking to the dealership, I thought I would run it past you guys.

Thought?

I read this in another forum when I had a sunroof problem... it was in response to an '05 300C sunroof problem and explains how to recalibrate it...

Recalibration Procedure:

1. **UNCALIBRATE THE SUNROOF. a. Insure the battery is at least 12 Volts.
b. Place the ignition switch in RUN position.
c. Locate the sunroof fuse (Fuse 44 in the Power Distribution Center located in the trunk).
d. While the sunroof is still in motion, have an assistant remove the sunroof fuse.
e. Reinstall the sunroof fuse.

2. RECALIBRATE THE SUNROOF a. Press and hold the sunroof vent switch until it stops at the full vent position.
b. Verify sunroof operation by opening, closing, and venting the sunroof.
c. If the uncalibrate/recalibrate procedure corrected the sunroof glass to roof fit, perform the Repair Procedure using the factory scan tool to reprogram the sunroof module.

I hope that is the correct fuse for you. In the same thread, it also had some info on how to manually force it closed after multiple failed attempts...

When three EFL events occur without the glass being allowed to fully close, the next close attempt will only move while the close switch is continuously actuated. This allows the sunroof to be forced closed if multiple close attempts fail. If the sunroof close switch is continuously actuated during an EFL event, through the reversal, and during a two second wait time, then continuing to hold the close switch will cause the roof to move towards close with the EFL protection disabled. This allows the sunroof to be forced closed if it is known that a reversal will occur. While in EFL override, the closing motion will cease if the sunroof switch is released at any time.

Hope this helps!

Solved!

I read the calibration instructions that appear to be floating around on every post that even mentions the word "Sunroof", however, it will not work for a sunroof that is non responsive. Since the beginning of the calibration procedure says, "while the sunroof is in motion"...ok stop there --- since the sunroof is non-responsive (i.e. not in motion), the calibration process is useless and will not help for this specific issue.

HOWEVER, all I needed to do was to remove fuse 44 (in trunk 20amp - big fuse) and replace with the same fuse (was not blown). The This must have somehow "reset" the sunroof and and it is now working like a champ.

Hopefully this will help others that may experience similar issues. No need to do a million things, try unplugging/replugging the fuse first, as it may be a quick fix.

Thanks for the quick response.

As an update on this thread, I have a 2010 300C AWD and my sunroof wouldnt open or close suddenly. No prior problems in two years of driving. The vent feature worked to open the roof then it was stuck and wouldn't move again. I pulled and replaced fuse 44 (the blue one) and now it's working fine again. I'll report back if this problem pops back up.

And I hear what you are saying - I just pasted that calibration procedure because it had the fuse number in it. I knew you couldn't calibrate it since it was not responsive - hence the paste on how to force it closed.

Glad to hear it worked and happy to help. I'm going to save this one in case it ever happens to me.

I had the same problem with the non responsive sunroof on my 2006 300C. I did as y2kcurt says and now it is working fine. Thanks!!

I take it the factory scan tool you refer to is at the dealership? I am trying to get the sunroof to open/close once the recalibration is performed. It will go into the hard vent position and then it will either close or auto open deepening on which side of switch is pressed but then it will not operate again unless the fuse is pulled again.
Suggestions??

This trick is amazing! My sunroof (Chrysler 300M) automally opened while I was driving and I couldn't close it. It was stuck there, no move. I tried so many things people recommended but those didn't help. Even banging the motor didn't help. Then I found this thread. The only thing I had to figure out was there was no fuse 44 in relay box of Chrysler 300M. Read the text under the cap of the relay box (in the hood, not the trunk), it is relay 20 (20Amp for sunroof). I started the car, wore safety glasses (just a little scared because I have never done this), use a plier to pull out relay 20, then plug it in. Pressing vent button of sunroof in the car, it worked right away! Thanks a bunch! Save a trip to mechanic!
