I'm in the middle of my audio project now - and I am also in the same boat with needing my trunk space. I put the amp on the back of the rear seat and added a 12" fender well enclosure in the same spot where the Kicker goes. Just another option for you...

Another good place to install the amp so it's out of the way is on the underside of the rear package tray, between your rear speakers.

Hey Fisch I love it! - I would like to use a 12" - even maybe both sides! But I assume that is a custom made enclosure.. Mind me asking what you paid for that? Cost is an issue - so custom is mostly a miss..
Just thinking... I have an SRT so I have the lovely foam air pump & fix-a-flat can holder in the wheel well.. Could hide the amp there.. Haha

I like the OEM MOPAR KICKER sub and amplifier because I assume it plugs directly into the car with a harness and the car's radio has full control over it.

But, can you swap just the amplifier while keepin the harness the same? I don't want to use my Dual 12" boxes because I lose my trunk space.

You could. The stock sub is 1 ohm. You would need a 1 ohm stable amp. And you would need to wire the amp like any other amp. It
will not just plug into the stock stuff & there's not really any stock HU adjustability. The only thing it does is cross over.
There's no sub level control.

Thanks. It's a work in progress, but I'm getting there.

The enclosure is a handmade fiberglass enclosure, but it wasn't custom. Got it on ebay. And good news - it's cheap! AND, they make them for both sides of the trunk in 12". Just search ebay for "Chrysler 300 enclosure" and you'll see it. A couple vendors sell it ranging from $150-$240... same one... so... uh... go for the $150 one.

Since I needed the trunk space, a fender enclosure was really my only option. I was quoted $500 from the local audio shop to make a custom one, and I found a couple online (like Art of Noise, etc), but most of them were a minimum of $350. And then I bumped into this one on ebay, and for $150 it was worth a shot. And I'm VERY happy so far. The manufacturer is a company called NRG but I can't find info on them and all of the ebay sellers have no info. Somebody in my other thread said that it looks like Bassforms - and it just might be... looks darn close from the picture I see online.

One thing I should note - I did have a challenge figuring out a way to secure it in the fender area. The fitment is perfect and it is pretty heavy, especially with the sub loaded, but I felt it may want to tip inward. But I have found a good solution with a bolt/nut combo through the wall - if you go this route you can see what I did somewhere in this thread - My audio/video build progress thread...

One more thing - the trunk floorboard will not open with this enclosure installed. Just FYI. I plan to mod it at some point so that I can open it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Oh nice! Either I have been typing 'enclosure' wrong or something. Because I wasn't getting those kinds of results on eBay.. I was only getting the OEM enclosure.. Thanks again man

The stock Kicker speakers are so powerful, I barely miss the trunk sobwoofer. I just wish the price had decreased over time. I could get a dual 12" Kicker L7 box for $500.
