Could not have said it better. for $90 bucks a YEAR savings I'm not gonna risk the long term life of my engine. Why would Chrysler say to use 89 if 87 was fine for the long haul? Answer: They wouldn't. In fact it would be a selling point for them to be able to say the Hemi runs on regular but they don't recommend that. It's a DIME A GALLON more for the right gas!

Just a note that E85 is not just another gasoline. It has 85% ethanol in it and the engine must be designed to run a blend like this. I thik the alternate fuels as 'okay' meant fuels with additives. All gas in MN has 10% ethenol in it. E85 can't be looked at as a lower octane gas, it is E (Ethanol) 85%. I'm suprised you got as far as you did running it as there are several engine components that need to be made differently to handle E85..not to mention the computer chip must be able to identify a 85% ethanol mix.

So...in conclusion, E85 is not a step down from 87 octane, it is a different fuel..85% ethanol 15% gas.

Thanks!

Jason
