I'll give you the layman's answers

Hesitation is normal with the 5.7L. Mine went away with the installation of my MOPAR CAI. Instant throttle response and no hesitation.

MDS can only be tested by taking mileage calculations. It's operation is not discernable when you are driving. Also make sure you use 89 octane gas, not higher, or the MDS will be impeded. (See your manual)

Hey I don't even have a "C" yet but I do recall a thread last year on the subject of calibrating the electronic accelerator for better response. You could do a search but from memory it is quite simply as follows:

1. Switch on ignition
2. Wait for all warning "bells" and dash lights flashing to stop
3. Depress the accelerator fully and smoothly
4. Release accelerator smoothly
5. Switch off ignition.
6. Then start as normal.

Other members reckon they notice a marked improvement.

The hemi has a built in hesitation which I don't think we will ever get rid of. It is very similar to turbo lag. I believe the hesitation is coming from the transmission, and probably related to the torque converter in certain situations. I have done the throttle calibration many times and have never noticed any difference. I notice the most hesitation when trying a fast acceleration after I have driving at a constant cruising speed, say 40 mph.
Push the gas hard, and I often notice the car seems to bog down for a second or so, and the RPMS even drop, before the car starts to accelerate.
At higher freeway speeds the hesitation is not as pronounced, but still there.
Knowing about the hesitation, I have learned to expect it and plan ahead.
Using the slap stick is another way to get a more reliable response.
This hesitation is a real downer in some driving situations.
I have several times chickened out trying to merge onto the freeway, or dive into a fast moving lane. The only way to avoid the long grueling hesitations is to floor the pedal to get the trani to get out of its funk.
