Yep - it's another "Jelly Bean" from the stylists at GM . . .
And - it will tip the scales at well over 4000 lbs - all 'lux' sedans of that size do, these days.
It's real competition will be the 300C and the Charger in either 5.7 or 6.4 versions.
When the SS hits Chevy showrooms, it just might drive more buyers over to Chrysler / Dodge . . .
Yep, the 300 and Charger look way better than the SS. I don't understand how GM can be so blind when it comes to exterior styling. They just put some vents on the front fenders and call it done. I guess they don't think anyone will notice the hideous front end or other ugly exterior features.
On the plus side, the interior does look pretty nice. I don't like the strange protrusions near the top of the seat. I don't know why they would want to bolster the seat up there.
Yeah this thing is plain and boring on the outside. If they would have made it look more like the G8 I would have been curious at least about this new car and probably at least stop and take a look at a dealership. I might look at this thing in my rear view mirror at the most.

I'll wait until I see it before I pass judgement on the looks. Either way, I love it for what it is and for GM to have the ba11s to bring it state-side. A large American rear drive V8 automobile with tons of grunt is always good. Now, if Ford would also bring over an Australian V8 car the set up would be perfect.
BTW, I hated the way the G8 looked in pictures, but was happy when I saw it on the street.
While we are talking about emasculated jelly beans.... how about the 2nd generation 300. Now that's a disappointment if there ever was one.

Reason: Someone noticed I can't spell.
Had a 2009 Pontiac GT8 was not a big fan. Didnt like the steering feel, transmission gearing, exhaust note and the hard seats. The brakes were terrible! But had power and was as roomy as my 2006 Charger SRT8.

Gawd UGLY!! FAIL! i mean how stinking hard is it to at least put a body kit or a front fascai? something. it looks like every other cookie cutter malibu, impala, etc..pos! when will chevy learn, if you make cheap looking crap then thats the crowd your going to get. I dont mind paying more for an american car rather than an import but at least get somewhat bang for the buck..ughh
The engine specs are the same for the G8 GXP, so it looks like a basic reskin with new interior.
From the hype they were pumping you'd think it was going to be a game changer instead of a retread.

Couldn't disagree more. The 1st gen was a bit blocky for me. It has the aerodynamics of a brick wall. The 2nd gen is smoothed out but still has the brutish, chopped look. Love my 2nd gen beyond anything they did with the 1st gen. Glad you love yours, though. And honestly this was how I felt about the Jeeps SRT8; didn't like the WK2 and totally convinced I would keep my WK1 forever. After seeing the WK2s in person, though, damn they're nice!
Bottom line: to each his own! You love yours, I love mine. We can all still get along, lol.

The drag coefficient of the Gen 1 is .33; G2 is .32. In real tems - about the same.
Having said that, the re-styling was, imo, well done. The average person recognizes the Gen 2 as a 300 and I particularily like the rear fender - trunk line treatment.
In short - a tasteful evolution of a classic design . . .
