Anyone With An Extended Warranty

As I continue along my purchase path, I'm curious if anyone purchased the extended warranty with their 300, particularly you SRT owners.

Is it one of the "cover this but not this" warranties, and if you care to divulge, what you paid for it, term, etc.

As an example, when I bought my Infiniti, my extended warranty took it out to 7 years, 100,000 miles, and it covers anything and everything outside of belts, tires, wiper blades, etc.

With all of the electronics and audio systems these days, and extended warranty may well be in order.

Chrysler still has the 3/36 bumper to bumper, correct?

Thanks again!

The search function will get you more warranty related reading than you ever wanted.

Don't worry about jjs' standard reply comments. He's always got something sarcastic to say and follows up with the search deal. Here's a link to some warranty info - http://www.300cforums.com/forums/srt...light=warranty

If you click on the link in my post #6, it'll take you to the details of the warranty I went with. No it won't cover wiper blades and other wear items, but petty much everything else. Note the oil changes, tire road hazard coverage, meals, accomodation and on and on that are covered. Next figure out how much an oil change costs at your dealer's, multiply times 20 and you'll see it's well worth it. This is the best warranty for the SRT8. Don't believe for a second that the really cheap warranties will be worth it.

Don, a couple things to keep in mind:

If you buy an extended warranty, I would only by a DaimlerChrysler service contract. There are different terms available depending on your driving habits; my dad got one on his SRT8 and went for the maximum number of Months but not miles.... which I think was 7 years but only 60k miles. He MIGHT (or might not) but 5,000 miles a year on his, so he was more interested in the time factor.

Some aftermarket warranty companies are really insurance companies and either (a) may not be around when you need them; (b) pro-rate cost of major repairs or only will authorize used parts, such as transmissions; or (c) some shops are 'gun shy' about these and will not release the car until paid in full, so you either have to pay and wait for reimbursement or wait for the warranty company to pay. So definitely go with a Chrysler backed warranty if you do it at all.

Also, you do not have to buy the warranty from the same dealer you buy the car from; you can shop around. I think my dad could have gotten a warranty cheaper, but on the other hand he got an SRT8 for $217 over invoice back when other dealers were $5k or $10k over MSRP so he didn't feel too bad about them making a few bucks off his warranty!

Hope this helps! you'll love the car if you decide to get one.

I'm glad I read these threads and your link, Rambit. I paid $3,000 and an additional $250 since it was an SRT for a 5 year 100,000 warranty. I will be cashing it out (within 90 days) and will do my homework for a 'new' warranty. Just another reason why I'm glad I paid a little to be a Premium member on this great forum.

Moose.

Yeah, I guess it was a little harsh. It's just that you always tell people to search, but don't give an answer to the question. I don't think it takes all that much longer to provide a link to give an answer. It took me a while to catch on to the search thing so maybe others will eventually learn too.

Fair enough, but I tell people to search to cut down for the rest of us who DO search the huge number of duplicative threads in the search results, let alone the forums themselves.

I mean, 500+ THREADS on certain topics...many EXACTLY the same issues, etc...that gets annoying...fast.

Also, if we don't point to the search function and simply provide answers all the time, what incentive does any new member have to EVER learn to use it?

thanks for the replies, and for the good information.

As soon as a I posted my question, the light came on about searching the forum. What can I say, I'm educated far beyond my intelligence.

I agree with all of the comments that recommend buying an extended warranty through the manufacturer. Steer a wide berth around those third party groups.

Just so I understand, the factory is 3/36, and then an extended will take you to 5/60, or you can buy 7/100. Is that correct?

The buying "term" or buying "mileage" has me confused a bit.
