Thumbs up High Octane Experiment!

300C 10300 miles
Ok, today I get in my car and see that I need gas. Check my average (16.5 mpg) reset at every fill-up.
Flashpaq is on the way so I decide to try a little high octane today (93).
Reset, drops down to (7 or 11 can't say for sure) as usuall it starts climbing to where it left off (16.5) and keeps climbing to 21.5 within 7 miles through town averaging 30-50 mph 2 stop lights.
Its never done this before. Anyone else experiance anything like this?
Time to do some math.

Depending on many factors, your figure can vary greatly in such a short trip...it would be interesting what you experience after a whole tank is gone and drivign the same way and distances as you ususally would.

Don't go off of the goofy electronic MPG guage...it is only a "at this time" output. To get a true reading, you must set your mileage and go through at least most of the tank. Fill back up to the level that you were at (full) and do your calculations i.e. Drove 300 miles and brought on 17 gallons = 17.64 MPG.

Understand this, if been making this same trip once a month since September 05. This is a first, and yes I will repost as I watch all that takes place or not.

Mathematically:If You are standing still: Average gasolin use/ 0 meters = undefinetily amount of gasoline used. All the measurements are of couse digital and when Yoy stop for redligths ect, the average use will crease.

One of the awesome bennifits of those cars (5.7) is being able to use regular unleaded and still light them up! IMO - don't waste your money. The Middle East has enough of it.

Curiously enough, most of the OPEC crude oil is heavy. Alaska north slope and west Texas are two places that produce light sweet crude. Premium contains more of the lighter components, as well as just more octane equivalent. So you might actually be using less OPEC stuff with the high-test.

Lighter more volatile gasoline will burn more easily. I'm not surprised if you get somewhat better gas mileage with it even if the knock sensor never comes into it. If the improvement is 10% or more, it pays for itself because the price difference of 93 vs. 87 octane around here in Connecticut is less than 10%.
