Does anyone know if the Steel Blue Metallic is like the Steel Blue that was just phased out after the 2003 MY? I wanted that color in '87 when I ordered my first Voyager, but they discontinued it in '86. When it came time to get a new van in 2001, the family out-voted me and we got the Sterling Blue instead. When it came time for me to get the Sebring, it was an early '04 ( Purchased in February 03 ) and Steel Blue was not available -- I went with Deep Saphire Blue instead. I want a color that is easy to keep clean and shined and won't show every little swirly like the Saphire Blue does.

Same primary color but was called "Steel Blue Pearl Coat" and is now "Steel Blue Metallic Clear Coat" so it looks a little different. This is what the new Steel Blue looks like on the Grand Cherokee:

I believe some member actually experience heat problem and remove the plates blocking the two openings beside fog lights solve it.

The damaging effects of extreme underhood temps on all components residing there should not be overlooked. Prior to removing my lower shroud and the front vent blocking plates I would be literally be rocked back on my heels by the rush of super-heated air escaping when I'd open the hood to check oil, etc., at a fueling stop in desert summer. It was exactly like opening an oven which has been set to a very high temperature - unbearable. Removing the shields has easily reduced peak summer under-hood temps by 75 degrees or more....

Fender well liner mod - required when lower engine shroud removed

I do believe the new opening is there for a reason. But beware of this problem when doing so...

Thanks for the replies E55 KEV and PKH.

I live in Sacramento and have not had any trouble with overheating, but I have also not had my car in any extreme conditions, such as track time. I wondered if extreme use was causing overheating.

The grill may be big, but part of it is covered with foam for crash protection, and even with the big grill if the radiator isn't efficient then no amount of air will help. The original Mustangs had big grills with much less power and they had overheating problems. The radiators were too small.

I also know that it takes a couple years for a car with this volume to sort out problems. Speaking of which, do any of you know of a scratching sound that comes from the engine bay when the engine warms up? I have taken mine to the dealer a couple times with this loud noise and they cannot come up with a potential cause. Their first try was to replace the alternator, but that didn't work. They have given up. It is engine speed sensitive and I can hear it best at idle (probably because other noises filter it out at speed). If I blip the throttle at idle it will usually go away temporarily? Any ideas? The only thoughts I have are really scary (scraping cam?), but there doesn't seem to be a performance issue thus far.

Thanks.

Zak

One reason I say the extra hole may not be due to overheating on the 300C SRT8 is because that bumper design is standard equipment on European models included the V6 for more than 6 months now.

Thanks for the pictures. I'll have to wait and see what is available. The Magnesium that has just been phased out polishes up nicely and doesn't show teh swirlys. here's hoping the Steel Blue does the same

From the Forum Archieve's Q&A section someone did ask SRTengineers the question about why the new opening on front.

I wanted to thank you for making the one piece molded front fascia and lower chin spoiler. As well as the rear bumper in a one piece as well.
The main question alot of us members have is why did you cut in another row of holes, in the front fascia, below the main grille?
Thanks again for making such an incredible car/s (LX Platform).
One very satisfied customer. FreebirdSRT.
Oh, BTW Adam Forte says get back to work.

Reply by SRTengineers...

Sorry not sure what holes you're referring to...if its just above the chin spoiler it is for cooling airflow.

I am wondering about the extra 10HP mostly from the performance exhaust system? What is different from the 300C 2006 exhaust system? Larger pipes,
hi-flow cats? Thanks,

Gert
