I like the turn signal in the side mirrors. I wondered why the current models didn't have them. Other than that, I don't see anything too wild.

Im drooling over all these add ons.
But what exactly is Adaptive Speed Control?

-Adaptive Speed Control
-Exterior mirrors with turn signals
-Heated second row seats
-Smartbeam headlamps (first appeared for LX models on the Ltd Heritage Edition)
-REC nav ParkView rear back-up camera system (?)

I wish some of these things can be added on out models.

The exterior mirrors should not be that difficult to upgrade too. If a 2007 is wrecked they have to have replacement parts so they should be able to be fitted on a 06 hopefully wihtout a big hit if the wiring is primarily in the mirrors.

This is all I know:

Two companies are developing a more advanced cruise control that can automatically adjust a car's speed to maintain a safe following distance. This new technology, called adaptive cruise control, uses forward-looking radar, installed behind the grill of a vehicle, to detect the speed and distance of the vehicle ahead of it.

Adaptive cruise control is similar to conventional cruise control in that it maintains the vehicle's pre-set speed. However, unlike conventional cruise control, this new system can automatically adjust speed in order to maintain a proper distance between vehicles in the same lane. This is achieved through a radar headway sensor, digital signal processor and longitudinal controller. If the lead vehicle slows down, or if another object is detected, the system sends a signal to the engine or braking system to decelerate. Then, when the road is clear, the system will re-accelerate the vehicle back to the set speed.

The 77-GHz Autocruise radar system made by TRW has a forward-looking range of up to 492 feet (150 meters), and operates at vehicle speeds ranging from 18.6 miles per hour (30 kph) to 111 mph (180 kph). Delphi's 76-GHz system can also detect objects as far away as 492 feet, and operates at speeds as low as 20 mph (32 kph).

Adaptive cruise control is just a preview of the technology being developed by both companies. These systems are being enhanced to include collision warning capabilities that will warn drivers through visual and/or audio signals that a collision is imminent and that braking or evasive steering is needed.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Several hi-buck companies offer this feature on 2006 models. Apparently it's filtering very quickly down to more affordable cars in 2007. Benz claims to be the coolest in that theirs works all the way down to 0mph. So you can be stopped in a traffic jam, engage the active cruise-control (or whatever they call it) and when the car in front of you starts moving, you start moving too, automagically.

In a few years I expect that I'll be in the market to retrofit such a system to all my cars. Hope it will be possible. I think it will be very desirable and soon will be provided with all cars. Look at it negatively: what car company could take the risk of providing a non-adaptive cruise control, like what we get today, at the risk of being sued when there's a head-on collision because someone was not paying attention with the cruise engaged?

Resume Speed, great info as always. I am curious to know if the 07 SRT8 will also have all the new features of the 07 300C or are the exclusive changes for each model type? In other words, are all the potential changes for the 07 300c automatically going to be available on the SRT8? Thanks!

No, not necessarily. I have seen the SRT8 info and so far have not seen the Adaptive Cruise, SmartBeam lamps, heated 2nd row seats, supplemental signal mirrors or rear backup cam. However, I am still gathering information and it's possible one of more of these features would appear on the SRT8 versions. I would think the rear cam option for sure. I'll know a little more in the days and weeks ahead as I believe DCX is still finalizing some of the specs and options.
