Fun Ride into the Mountians - Pics

What a fantastic weekend. I took a drive from Portland up into the mountains to stay with a couple of friends in the quaint town of Sisters, Oregon.

The drive up consisted of an hour of freeway (where I was able to break 100 for the first time – OK, the first THREE times!) then up into the mountains.

The road was two lane with a lot of passing lanes. Thankfully, traffic was almost non-existent and I had the road to myself for the most part. I really got a good feel for how to use the manual shift while entering and leaving curves. One particularly wicked turn caused the 300 to go into full ESP use – all four tires chattering to stick on the road). That will get your heart pumping!

This is the first car I’ve had that I didn’t need to have a quarter mile of clear on the other side of the road in order to pass an RV! Zipped by one after the other on the way home (there was more traffic today on the way home). Nice to have an engine!

Photos below tell the story better than my words.

Oh yeah, my Passport radar detector saved me from three tickets this weekend. One on the freeway and two on long straight stretches where there were four lanes of traffic for passing. Major speed trap – FOILED! Yeah Baby!

Tombstone Pass (where I spent 20 minutes following a hot chick on a motorcycle up, she was fast!).

Big Trees -

Sharp curves (most curves were between 25-45 mph)

Open Stretches to lay her out!

Wow, I surely do miss the quality of the roads there on the mainland.

Beatiful pix there kings11. The mountain scenery really sets off the Golden Linen color of your car! Now get some on the rim of Deschuttes Canyon!

The speed limit in Oregon is only 55 mph, so it is great for passing. Punch it, and it grabs 2nd, and really gets around the turtles fast. Also, the slow speed limit lets you enjoy the beautiful Oregon scenery. I'll be headed that way in a couple weeks. Got friends in Bend, and kids in Springfield.

The Gold Linen is sticking around. It's one of the more common colors I've seen in sales lots around here.

From another thread on 2007 models:
2007 LX models: Features and Changes

Discontinued colors:

Magnesium Pearl (discontinued Feb 2006)
Satin Jade Pearl (discontinued late April 2006)
Midnight Blue (discontinued late May 2006)

TIRES and Wet:
I know I gotta get a little Wet look going. But My friend lives on a road in Sisters that I had to drive 3 miles on a dirt road to get to (he has 30 acres and we whooped it up Sunday night!). So Wet tires would be "muddy" tires.

On the stock question, I have to run on these for a year before I can justify getting new tires and rims. Then, I'm only going 20's, but I'll keep them wet.
