Impala has it, and so should we... Don't u think?

Okay, the feature i would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to see made available via superchips or something on later models is letting us know when MDS is enabled or disabled...

Now, when I'm trying to conserve gas on cruises, i keep 'cruise control' engaged and lock it in at a slightly lower speed than i am driving at... then i regulate my own throttle up and down hilly roads and what not... this seems to give me the BEST all around gas mileage, staying 18-22 weekly...

anyway, the New Impala SS's have chevy's version of MDS, called Active Fuel Management
Active Fuel Management
"A 303-hp small block V8 is standard in SS and features Active Fuel Management that uses eight cylinders when you want more power, four cylinders when you need better mileage — delivering an EPA estimated, petrol-pinching 28 MPG highway."

The only reason I am even mentioning this in our forum is because they now display how many cylinders are in use on the dash. click here and view the gauges in the 2nd picture under 'Interior': http://www.chevrolet.com/impala/photogallery/

An even better idea would be to allow us to ditact whether we want to use 4 or 8 cylinders manually as well, obviously with an autooveride feature for ppl who have no clue as to what they are doing... this would be ideal, especially with the cost of gas continually rising as it has been recently...

Just thought I'd share my thoughts...

You've hit upon one of my million-dollar ideas that won't make me a penny. Instead of a cruise control that always maintains a set speed, have a fuel economy cuise control mode where you set the speed and the allowable variance, and the computer works to optimize fuel economy (i.e. allows the car to speed up on descents and slow down on ascents within a programmed range).

I believe one of the reasons why there's no manual override for the MDS relates to cylinder wear. It is my understanding that while in 4-cyl mode (every 6 min or so) all 8-cyl engage periodically. Manually defeating may cause some premature wear.

I know all 8-cyl are still moving just no gas/spark. I just remember reading the preceeding info somewhere in the forum over the past year or so.
