Factory Uconnect Install

I finally received my Jet-harness today, ready to get this mod done. I would also like to thank Jaak and Jet-Pilot for all the information regarding this install and the harness. I would also like to thank the guys at MoparSuperCenter.com for offering a great package deal on the parts needed for the install, which was alot cheaper than if I were to use my DC employee discount to buy the parts at my local dealer.

Jet-harness when it arrived

I then used some electrical cloth harness tape to wrap up the wires.

I took off the glove box door to mount the uconnect module. I had read in a post somewhere that the module install to the right of the glove box. Screw holes are already there. (circled in pic)

Screwed in the module in place and ran the wiring behind the radio.

Radio connection is very simple. Unplug main radio connection, Plug that into the Jet-harness, then plug the Jet-harness jumper into the radio.

I then removed the driver side knee bolster panel so I can fish the Jet-harness wire through to the A pillar.

I used some thin but stiff wire to fish up the harness wire up to the mirror harness.

This I think is the trickiest part of the install. Inserting the pins into the appropriate slot in the connector. I followed this pic which shows the aftermarket wire colors mating to the new mirror harness wire colors.

Here was my first connection, white wire with blue stripe to pin #7 which will mate with the black wire with orange stripe on the new mirror harness. I would then hold up the new mirror harness to double check that the 2 wires mentioned do indeed contact one another.

One thing I should mention, not sure what it is called but it locks all the pins in place. I had to lift this up (one click only) so that I could insert all the pins in place. Pins would slide in with no effort until they click in place. Here is a pick with this locking bar lifted slightly. Then just push it back into place when all the wires are inserted.

To make installing the new mirror harness easier, I peeled back some of the door weather stripping, and unscrewed the visor and visor clip so I can pull down a little on the headliner without damaging it. I left the old harness in place. PITA to remove with the push pins in place. I just removed the push pins from the new harness and tucked it up in the headliner. Installed new Uconnect mirror, made connections, put the visor and clip back.

I then used a zip tie to tidy up the remaining jet-harness slack behind the glove box.

Finally, I turn the key... hit the Uconnect button on the mirror....And Sucess...

Nice Jerry.

I installed one of mines, "his" yesterday afternoon but impossible to take pictures because of darkness, but did almost the same as you explained except that I removed the old harness including the push pins and installed the new one with their push pins. Not an easy task.

Next weekend I will going with "her".

THX jaak and JetPilot for your effort and help on this one. Many happy LX'ers.

I'm sure your just as happy as I am with this mod. When I bought the car a couple years ago, this option wasn't a priority of mine since I didn't have a bluetooth phone. Now I can see what I've been missing.

Yes, Thank you very much for the detail install, this will be very helpful.
A couple of questions...How do you know if you need the Jet-Harness? I understand that some cars will already be wired for U-connect, Is that correct? Where do you get electrical cloth harness tape?

Wow, great “how to….” On the the UConnect. I’ll put that in my memory for future use as I’m sure someone will post how to do this mod. Thanks for going to all the trouble to post such a nicely detailed explanation. If I didn’t already have the factory install I would give these directions a try.

Take a look at your mirror harness connector at the bottom of the A pillar. If you already have wires in the spots that I have numbered here, then you will not need the Jet-harness. The Uconnect module harness connector should be behind the glove box area ready to be plugged in.

I bought the electrical cloth tape at Home Depot..
