Sun Roof plastic accordion weatherstrip

My sunroof has plastic accordion like weatherstrip on the left and right sides.

I just noticed that the left side has broken completely from its window clip mount by splitting its entire length, AND the right side has a visible 2" split in it.

Upon examination, my opinion is that the plastic is of VERY POOR QUALITY. I suspect that after many opens and closes it will tear, just like a cheap sheet of paper.

Anyone else experience this?

Yep. Got it (passenger side) replaced under warranty a couple months back.

Post us a pic.

For what it's worth, anytime I show my dealer a problem I'm having and they take care of it. Be sure to show your dealer.

How long have you had it? How many miles on the car? What's the build date of the car (door sticker MDH code at lower left and MMYY code at upper right)?

I’ve never seen this type of failure. However, your dealership should definitely replace that without a blink. If not string them up …..or find another one. Good luck!

What I don't like about the accordion plastic is the noise is makes over rougher roads. I am always pushing if forward to stop it from making noise. The noise is similar to a low level rattle. I have even sprayed it with silicone, but that didn't quit it down. But I havn't noticed any cracks/splits.
