Are "Halogen Projector Headlamps" the same as HID's?

No they are not the same. Halogen bulbs are the standard. HIDS (high intensity discharge) may look similar to some but require a ballast/starter combo for each bulb to work properly. Thay are also brighter while using less power. They both can be used with or without a projector housing. If you use a HID without the projector you will get a lot of uncontrollable light. The Halogen bulb has a peice of metal in the bulb to help direct light.

You need to see a car with HID’s on at night. You'll see instantly the difference and what’s more never go back to anything but HID’s. They make the night life baby! Serioulsy…dramatically improved night time driving. IMHO!

I just traded an 05 C which had HIDs on it, for an 06 C, which turns out does not have them! DOH!!! The 05 I had came off the lot, and I just assumed all Cs came with HIDS, so I never bothered to check the 06 before buying it. DAMN DAMN DAMN.

The first time I drove the 06 at night I though my lenses must be really dirty, because they looked so much dimmer compared to the 06. The next day I checked the lights out, and slapped my head about 10 times. Still slapping my head just thinking about it again. If you have the choice, HIDS are at least 3 steps up compared to Halogen only.

Ouch (just slapped myself again!)

That’s a shame. Now that I’ve had the HID’s there is no going back! They are one of the most outstanding options…..they really do make a huge difference in night time driving. As Dubster said you can get some after market ones. Good luck!

My 2001 Cummins Ram Sport has the halogen projector headlamps which is a improvement over the stock Quartz ones but still not as bright as the HID's on my 300.
