Please Help!

Does anyone know how to get duct tape glue residue from both the paint and the trim pieces safely? Please, no smart comments today, I'm not sure I can handle it. I'll explain later but I'd VERY much appreciate advice on how to remove this without trashing the paint and trim pieces. Thank you.

Since you don't say what type of "trim" parts I will offer the safest solution-
Go to your local craft store like Michael's, JoAnn's, Ben Franklin, or Hobby Lobby, depending on where you live, and get "Un-du" Adhesive Remover.

It is extremely effective, yet safe enought to use on photographs or fabric.
Use a microfiber towel to apply - let the product do the work, not brute strength, to avoid scratching any surfaces.

You can do a search and find my previous post, or check online for a pic of the bottle with yellow/red label...

Good luck... Don't panic!

When I had to tape up the underside of my car, I used Goo Gone then clayed and waxed and all that jazz... looked good as new to me.
I've never tried Un Du but I guess it's got the same effect.

you could also use a blow dryer, heat the duct tape and use your finger to take it off....it works>>>>>

I don't personally know what "Un-do" is so I can't comment on it, but Hemee knows her stuff. You can also use WD-40, Liquid Wrench, rubbing alcohol or Goo-Gone. Soak the residue for a minute or two to allow the solvent to penetrate. Use a microfiber cloth to avoid scrathces. You essentially want a MILD petroleum based solvent. Please be sure to stay AWAY from acetone, laquer thinner or anything in these families (strength-wise). Please be sure to put some sort of wax on the area after you have cleaned too to protect the paint as the cleaner you use will also likely strip off any wax you had on there.

Un-du is very similar to Goo Gone, except that it does not seem to leave as much of a "greasy" smeared mess behind... and yes, it contains petroleum distillates. I always keep a bottle on hand because it is so versatile, just about the only surface it can't be used on is suede and unfinished leather. www.un-du.com

I'm a WD-40 fan, but not knowing the "parts" involved, Un-du was a safer bet for me to suggest.

Thank you for the advice everyone. We have a Michaels nearby Hemee so I'll be off in the morning. Looks like a useful product!! And for the record, getting into these cars when a key is locked inside is NOT something I'd recommend (via tow truck driver/roadside service tech). I'm very much sick in thinking about the damage that might be done to my new car. Hopefully it all comes off and what I think are scratches are not, or are so light they can buff/clay/polish out. Here's hoping tomorrow goes better than all of today did. Thank you again everyone!!

Oh no Mr. H….not your beautiful new car! I’m so sorry. Locking the keys in the car can’t be a good thing. I hope if there is any damage it is very, very slight…or none at all.

I see you’ve gotten plenty of suggestions for products. I’m sending you positive thoughts for a complete recovery. Please keep us posted.

There's some stuff called GOO BE GONE you can get from the pharmacy or hardware store that won't destroy the paint. I use it to remove my emblems from the trunk lid and it came out clean.
