Barrett-Jackson Auction

I've been watching this on the Speed Channel. Can you believe the prices for muscle cars? I used to deal in these back in the 70's - buying and selling GTO's, Challengers, Cudas, Stangs, Cameros - you name it.

They were inexpensive with monster motors. A 'cuda Hemi just sold for $250K.

Who knew?

Anyone else forget to set one of these aside for 3 decades?

I watch these shows, and remember seeing the cars on the track at Pacific Raceways, being pushed hard. Hope these guys paying so much, are at least out driving them.

Best show on tv, better than the Superbowl. Can't wait til I win the lottery, there is a Superbird in the plan.

Hubby & I love to watch Barrett-Jackson but this is definitely NOT reality TV... if it was, I could be convinced to turn over my Nomad to them when we finish it in the Spring! The last 2 '55's went for $140k and $143.4k

I was at the auction yesterday, going back this morning. What a joke, these people are hilarious! I think next year I'm gonna set up a lemonade stand on Pima road with dixie cups "For just $12.99!" each.

I've always been a big Cuda fan, so when I saw a 1970 Hemi Cuda convertible on the preview lot last year I almost died. Then I gave it a good look over. A 318? It wasn't even a 'genuine' Hemi, someone had just slapped Hemi badges on it. Who the hell would by such a JC Whitney-ized monstrosity.

Someone did. $68500.00

So yesterday there is a '67 Boss mustang on the lot. It caught my eye because I'd shopped for one a couple years ago when I saw that Ford was Xeroxing it for their new designs. In 2003 I found a cherry Boss mustang, with shaker hood, fantastic condition, for $26,000. I felt it was too much to spend.

Boy was I wrong! The one we saw yesterday sold at auction for EIGHTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!

I swear this is the biggest collection of idiots this side of a UN meeting. But it's a fun time, and if you ever get tired of previewing cars, there are plenty of trophy wives to preview. Trust me, they'll be on the market soon enough.

BTW, it was at last year's auction that I first saw and sat in a 300C. Had mine home three months later.

I alway get a kick out of your posts. I certainly agree with most of the above. The Barrett-Jackson Social Event/Car Auction is quite the spectacle.

I just love B-J. I have two Austin-Healeys that I've owned for over 20 yrs. Whenever my wife opens up the credit card bill for stuff I've bought for them, I just say, "They're investments, one just like it sold at Barrett-Jackson for $60,000 last year!" Unfortunately, she just says, "Why don't you sell yours then?" I figure by the time my sons get a hold of the SRT-8 I have on order, it should be worth about a billion at B-J in 2054.

I thought I was the only one addicted to this auction, and when I saw the hemis going for those prices I went out and bought two more yesterday, they cost me 1.89 at Walmart, kidding aside, my partner (police) bought a super bee or similar in 1970 which had a big wing, kept it for less than a year and traded it in on something without the wing. If he only knew!!!!

I sure could have done without those pushy, in your face hawkers they were using though.

If it had a big wing in 1970 then it could only be a Superbird, not a Bee, Birds are worth at a minimum of 3-4 times a Bee. If he only knew , then again we all should have bought Microsoft in 1985 and sold in Dec '99 as well as Dell and Cisco. Better yet we should have simply picked the winning lotto numbers last week. Luck and timing are often more impressive than planning.
