A/C & Recirculation

When you push the reciruclation button for the A/C, is it supposed to always stay on from that point? When I push it and the car is on, it stays on the whole time the car is running. I notice if I park and turn the car off, when I get back out to the car and start it up again, the recirculation option is now off, and I have to manually push it again to turn it back on.

My old car it was always active once I pushed it once. Is it supposed to turn off like that?

Yes, by design, when the knob on the right is in automatic mode, the recirculation will always go off after a few minutes, even if you keep pushing it on. When it goes off, I begin to smell exhaust fumes if there are trucks & old cars in front of me. To overcome this design, I turn the right knob to one of the non defog settings, push the recirculation button and then it will stay on. I leave the fan speed knob set to auto.

Right I understand that, but when you turn the car off and then come back to it in an hour or so and restart it, the recirculation is off again?

I don't use the "auto" setting, I'm just trying to figure out if the recirculation is supposed to automatically turn on when you start the car or not.

Yes, if you turn the right knob to one of the non defog settings, push the recirculation button, it will stay on, even on restart. (I have a 300C, so yours may not be the same)

On restart it turns off. It does not stay on.

I also have a CSRT, so maybe we need someone with a touring or base model to confirm how it works on those models. They could possibly be different.

Looks like we have two choices; pushing the same germs and stale air around over and over or exhaust fumes!
