Open rear window wind buffeting contest.

One of my kids opened one of the rear windows today and all three of us got hammered by the most intense wind buffeting we've ever heard. This trashes your ear drums pretty quickly so be warned. Next time you drive your 300C try this. Open only one of the left "or" right REAR windows. Just one of them. Then get your speed to 50+ mph and see how long you can withstand the torture.

We gave up in less then 30 seconds.

Or better yet, Next time your kids act up tell them you're going to open the back window!!!

I thought DaimlerChrysler had this under control?

That "buffeting" IS pretty amazing... Makes a guy wonder just how in the world the actually managed to make it so extreme!

The same guys who engineered the right pull, do they not road test prototypes under all conditions and make refinements? This is the same bunch of Bozos that had to recall the original Intrepid class because the windshield wipers froze to the windshield because the defrost vents were directed too high on the extremely slanted windshield. Cab forward was a total joke, it really was base of the windshield forward over 1/4 of the engine, it had more room because it was a big car and had nothing to do with "cab forward". Don't let my criticism of DC careless and sloppy engineering mislead you, I love my C too, 9 months and it's as thrilling as day one (a first).

ps. My X5 and 92 Park Ave had some pretty bad buffeting too. It actually saves gas to leave the windows up and run the CC full time.

The "buffeting" is really bad. And it doesn't happen with only one window down. It is just as bad, if not worse, if you open BOTH back windows completely.

Trying to find just the right window open/close positions to "equalize" the car is difficult. It's a shame, because I do like to ride in the summer with the windows down. Looks like I won't be doing that too much.

the "buffetting" is the consequence of the air tight sealing of the cabin. When closed, the cabin is very quiet - even quieter than a DeVille at 70 mph.

Opening a rear window, destroys the sealing and the noise difference is extreme. I guess that's the price we pay for the great soundproofing and aerodynamics.

BTW, have you noticed that the rear windows go all the way down? Haven't seen that on a car in over 2 decades.

One way to eliminate the buffering is to open the sunroof to offset that feeling..all you need to do is tilt the sunroof and the buffering should be gone. atleast thats how it worked on my other cars, I havent even opened the windows on this car yet w/all the rain here in supposedly sunny California..
