Another Ticket...

Got pulled over in West Virginia on my way to Indiana. I was passing a car going 75 in a 70 and saw a cop come flying up on me (this was like 1am so I wasn't too sure) so I give it a little gas to finish the pass and get out of the way. I figured he was just in a hurry and wasn't coming after me. The p***k pulls me over and tells me I was doing 81 in a 70. I told him yeah I had the cruise set on 75 and I sped up a little to get out of your way sir, I thought maybe you were trying to get somewhere and I was in your way. He says "oh ok, yeah it was at the bottom of a hill too" so I think he's just gonna run my info and give me a warning... WRONG. The p***k comes back and gives me a ticket for 79 saying he's doing me a favor because it won't give me any points or show up on my insurance report... well that doesn't help me with the freaking $170 fine!!!!!!!!!!! Stupid Morgantown... I got one last Nov in Ohio for going 12 over in a construction zone and it was only like $112. I guess next time I'll just slow down and tuck behind the other car so that he has to wait to get around me. So much for trying to be courteous.

Oh and the court date was when I had to be in Texas, so I couldn't go to fight it. Then I forgot about it so now I'm sure I'll have a nice late fee on top of that, been trying to get an actual person on the phone to find out how much the late fee is for the last 3 days, no luck so far...

Btw... yes I know I was speeding, and yes I know I was wrong and he's just doing his job, but damn you'd hope that you tell them you're getting out of the way for them and they'd hook you up. Even more so if they see you have Vet tags on your car...

The VET plates have come in handy for me once or twice - but not a sure thing esp. since I'm sure that yours, like mine, are Marine plates and your 'citing Officer' was probably an Army dawg!

Dang! Yeah I've had it with speeding up to pass a similarly fast car in the right lane because the person behind me is in a hurry. :| It's too easy to get in trouble! Might as well slow down and fall behind the person on the right huh.

I had an SUV riding my butt on a 2 lane road with a 40, so I sped up to pass the truck next to me, got to 50, pass, start slowing down, hey there's a cop! *looks down thinking @#%*#@%*%@ and thank goodness I'm doing 42!*

He was parked sideways in a bus stop area and pulls out.. Ahhhh... PHEW! crosses and chases a car on the other side.

That was close!

NEVER doing that again.

DOH! Not another speeding ticket. It must be a fault with the car making us go to fast!

sorry to hear.

you've got to watch out for those small towns that reside near highways since they get so much revenue from tickets and the chance that most who end up getting ticketed are just passing by so no one fights it.

i got nabbed in fremont, in and the same type of ticket that would have cost $90 in IL cost me more than three times that. funny thing is the officer said the same thing to me..."i'm doing you a favor."

there was an interesting article in car&driver *i think* many years ago (~1999) about a very small town in ohio that gave out the most tickets in the nation and something along the lines of that town only having a 2 mile jurisdiction of the interstate. i remember it saying that the tickets paid for all the maintenance of the town, ie roads, etc. i'll try to search for it. GL!

tickets suck!
i got a racing ticket the other day!!
sum ass in a beat 98 corolla or other POS flew past me flipping me off! he was doing probally 65 in the 45, i was doing barly 50 because i've gotten 2 ticket on the same road before. so i speed up to see why the hell i was being flipped off, andhe took off on me... i caught up to him obviously and i just looked at him with a blank expression and let him keep going as i slowed back down... about 5 minutes later and 3 stop lights later a cop pulls up behind me, waits another block and finally pulls me over!

i tell him the whole story and he then asks if i've been drinking!
luckely i was the DD that night... i signed my damn ticket and walked off right in his face to the question about drinking, man i was pissed!

good thing i had a good friend who is a public defender and she said she can take it to court and get it dropped down to a reckless driving.

ps. between you's and me; he never flipped me off, and corollas arn't that fast
oh yeah, and i really WASN'T drinking!!!!!

Sorry to hear of your speeding ticket CPL! Couldn't tell you the number of times someone tears up behind me in the fast lane and like you I speed up and get over to let them be in a hurry to where ever they are going. After hearing of your experience I will be more careful...time for me to slow down and tuck in behind instead of speeding up. Thanks for the heads up..lesson learned for me..sorry you had to pay the hard way.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience Cpl. You'd think they would be nice enough to let you off with a warning but not in the last week of the month. Can you say ticket quota!!!
