The new key is exactly the same used on most Merceds Benz cars since 1999. It sends both IR and RF to the car computer.
I wonder if it will go away along with 5-speed MB transmission on 300C etc. since MB and Chrysler splitted.

15k???? I thought they were still in the low 20s. You must have very high mileage, correct? If not, could you point me to where they are selling this low? thanks

Gotta be, out here 300Cs are still going for 22k (I just checked autotrader), and I'm not surprised because I've checked with a few dealers out of curiosity.

Granted, that's still a phenomenal hit, considering we paid $35k OTD for ours and the one I was just looking at for 22k has only 2k miles more than my car (24k on that, 22 on ours). $13k for 2 years of ownership? OUCH!

But it was worth it, and I'd happily do it again.

*shrug* No. It isn't.

Wanna know something funny? The new Malibu and the new CTS have the same gauge cluster and it even uses the same piece of dashboard

The key is the size of the mercedes key used in 1999-2000 era the new mercedes keys are much smaller. Also these keys do not have IR only RF at this time. The IR was used on mercedes cars for opening the windows/sunroof from the outside door handle IR reciever. By 2009-2010 the key should become much much smaller. Yes the Mercedes 722.6 transmission will still be in operation and much improved trans software for even smoother shifting than previous models. The 5 speed should be around for a while, if anything would replace it should be Chrysler 5 speed ones used on trucks or possible the new 6 speed. But the new 6 speed 62TE/62RFE will require some major tuning to be acceptable for use in the cars. I dont know if you guys drove the pacifica with it but took the luxury out of it.....meaning that it was way way way sporty shifting driving....i would of expected that type of trans/shifting to be in a race/sports car. Who know by 2010 i do expect to see electric column shifters for the trans like on new mercedes.
