US vs Canadian Exchange Rate

Interesting observation when pricing a 300c SRT on the US site VS the Canadian site. Could be a hard to explain for Chrysler.

About $10,000 difference .... the exchange rate is almost 1:1

But Chrysler voids the warranty when you buy in the US.
You have no choice but to buy in Canada and pay a lot more.
GM doesn't do this. You can save $25K when buying a Corvette in the states.

The price difference is especially annoying considering the fact that the 300's are MADE IN CANADA!! Grrrr....

Made in CANADA .... h_ll ... they are made 10 minutes down the street. I live in Toronto.

Who at Chrysler do we contact ... they are sitting there laughing at Canadians.

Does the difference in price have anything to do with some sort of stealth tax in Canada?

No stealth tax. Pricing policies are falling behind the changing exchange rate. It's the same for all produts sold in Canada nowadays and direct purchase imports from the U.S. are soaring.

No, here in Canada they don't stealthily pickpocket your back pocket. They stick their hands right in your front pocket and give the family jewels a good squeeze while they are emptying your wallet.

It is a big difference but if you remember several years ago the situation was reversed. You could lose your franchise if you were caught selling new cars to Americans in Canada. Even G.M. had this policy. This was due to the differential pricing that most companies use for poorer(?) markets. For example batteries sold, by say Eveready, in Africa cost a lot less than they do here in North America. That's because they might be produced there or the company is willing to work on a much smaller markup rather than lose the business. With mass production the last few million batteries off the line probably cost next to nothing anyway so why try and get prices for them that you know the locals can't afford. The same holds true for cars. When the Canadian dollar was worth 62 cents(hey where's my cent icon on my keyboard) vs the American dollar most manufacturers took a beating on the cars they were selling here. I would imagine now is the time to make good on those losses. The difference in cost is the appreciation of the Canadian dollar vs the American and not an actual price increase for us. And with the losses our domestic manufacturers have been enduring lately, even though their cars are superior, I think they deserve it. That is until I buy my SRT-8.

If Canada and the US had an open border most Canadians would move to the States. Way less taxes and cheaper goods not to mention a liveable climate.
My next car purchase will be in the States and screw the high taxes we pay.

To: 300thebomb, I'm not sure I would agree with "everyone would move to the US". Canada does have it's merits. Subject for a different thread.

More importantly, Porsche has announced that they will be reducing prices in Canada .... finally.

With Porsche starting I believe the other manufactures will need to follow.
