Rock chips are destroying my life.

I'm here to tell you that I may have to trade in my C because everytime I get a new rock chip, I almost lose control of my bodily functions.

It seems like every week or so there's a new noticable chip on the hood or front fascia.

I travel about 100 miles/day so it's inevitable that this will happen but the pain I feel everytime a new one pops up is not worth it. I've considered a bra or even the clear bra but it may be worth it just to re-paint the hood and fascia every couple of years. Anyways, thanks for listening.

I feel your pain BUT don't sweat it. I became overly obsessive with minor chips etc as well (my daily commute is 90 miles and like you said on the HWY it is inevitable).

I bought touch up paints, blotches and the Porter Cable buffer. I royally screwed up....I applied to much pressure to a chip I was trying to smooth out after paint blotching and it was in the curved area of the hood and too much heat was generated and I f'd up the paint...It was like something got under my clear (do a search in the detailing sections and get a good chuckle..I posted pics). I was however lucky and my dealer agreed to re paint my hood at no cost.

What did I learn.....DON'T SWEAT THE CHIPS...ITS NOT WORTH IT

HERE'S A PIC OF WHAT COULD END UP HAPPENING, NOTICE THE WHITE SPOT IN BETWEEN THE TWO FLASHES:

Sad to see of the issues. Have you considered a clear bra?

I've got a couple of those in the top of the hood of both cars on the driver's side. It happened almost right away (in the first month or so for each). Nothing much since then... I've got the touch up paint, but so far haven't dared to attempt a fix.

Same here...first few months I was really anal about any type of blemish, how 5 months into ownership I don't even notice them....

I don't like the look of the clear bra's...it almost looks like the front of the car is faded or somehting. I'd rather deal with the Chips...

I'm all set with the Clear Bra's too. For the amount of money it cost (around $600), I think you're better off just having a new paint job every so often. I don't think the ClearBra's out there "repel" rocks either so I know there will be a point when I'm peeling the pitted ClearBra off the car and cursing at myself the whole time I'm doing it.

If I have someone paint the front fascia and hood, will the side fenders need to be blended you think?

Thats what I like about buying a used car. That first scratch or chip on a new car is agonizing.

I do 100kms per day and face the same dilemma no what car I drive so I just have to put up with it. I would no more put a bra on the car as I would myself!
I just have to put up with it as part of the lifestyle I lead. At least with your mileage you are getting plenty of enjoyment each day with your car!

regards Michaelr

Now that's what I like to hear! Turning a negative into a positive. You're damn right I get alot of enjoyment. There's nothing like the smell of wot in the morning to wake you up. Now that I have the thought of the Clockwork Orange guy in a bra outta my head.....I agree 100% with what you're saying.

Maybe I can just cover the entire car with pleather to help protect it?

I bought a kit from Langka last summer, and I have to say it works quite well. You just have to buy a bottle of touch up paint from the dealer. Here's the thread - Paint Chip Repair. If you check the link, there's a neat video of how it's done. The thing that I like is that is you screw up, you just go back to step one.

I wish our cars, at least the black and dark colours, had dark primer though.
