First of all sell your car yourself! If your hell bent on trading it in to a dealer don't tell them you have a trade until after you reach an agreement on the price of the new car.

Second, try carsdirect.com for pricing on the new car and or Consumer Reports new car quote system as well so you know what you should be paying for the car.

Third, once you have a pricing guide line wait until the last 3 days or so of the month and go to a high volume dealer. Look for a vehicle in stock that you like and using the pricing guide YOU TELL HIM WHAT YOUR GOING TO PAY FOR THE CAR! Tell him you will drive it off the lot right now at that price. Tell him no BS, no multiple Sales Managers crap. If they say no turn around and leave and if they don't stop you before you get out the door, go to another Dealer and do the same! Don't talk finance, lease or trade until after they agree to your number!

In November I did this when I bought my 07 Charger RT and got my price!

You can also go to KBB.com and lookup the trade in value on the car you are looking to buy to see about what the dealer got it for.

New Car Prices, Used Car Pricing, Car Reviews by Edmunds Car Buying Guide is one of the best sites to learn about cars.

remember: when you shop for cars, negotiate the price of the car...not the payment!! that is extremely important. they will try anything to get you to talk about your payment. tell them you will talk about the price of the car only and nothing else. once that is sorted, the payment will fall in line with the price of the car. you can tell them you want a $1000 payment each month; that could be almost any car at any amount of months.

when you are in the finance office signing your papers, do not give into any extra stuff unless you want it. they will offer extended warranties, paint protection, GAP, and many other things. you should take GAP on chrysler products and any other car on the market. the extended warranty is up to you if you feel you need it. i would not worry about paint protection. that is a rip in many dealerships due to the price you pay. supposibly it helps your trade value go up but i doubt that is true.

do some homework on the dealership you are buying from. sometimes dealerships have some bad vibes due to something they did in the past. read this article:
The Seattle Times: Local News: Car dealer pays back mentally ill man bilked out of $100,000

another local dealership was involved in a rape case as well. 3 salesman stated they had consensual sex with a customer at her place and then she screamed rape. make sure you do your homework on the dealerships!

check dealers' inventory, once you found the car, call their fleet/ internet sale managers. He/ she should be able to provide you a "competitive" price. Start working from that price.
