Center Console Power Outlet

Hello all,

As we're all aware, we have 2 power outlets

1) in the front ash tray
2) in the center console

#1 is on with the ignition and goes off when the engine goes off
#2 is on always

I know how to toggle the fuse so #1 is always on,

but the question is, how do you make #2 off when the engine goes off?
According to the manual, it's directly wired to the battery.
Can we somehow re-route the wire so it goes off when the engine turns off?

Thanks!

I'm sure you have a valid reason for wanting to do that. I like to have the ability to charge phones, etc., from either outlet anytime I want. It's especially good to be able to put a phone out of sight in the center console. Just wondering.

Well the reason is simple. I want to hook up a device that only turns on when the engine's on so I don't drain the battery.

Now you might ask, then why don't I just use the power outlet in the ash tray?
Well, the reason is, I don't want to have the ash tray open all the time.

The center console even has a little niche on the right side so you can run a wire into it, so I was planning to use this one.

Just cut the hot wire on the one to the center console. Then T-tap the one in the ashtray. As long as u aren't using both at the same time you will be fine I think it has a 10 amp fuse so even if both were going u would still be good. Total time about 30 minutes to do.
