Wiper Issue's

Hello all,

The 2005 300C has developed a wiper issue. It was ever so slightly raining, the wipers were in automatic mode but didn't come on so the windshield got so bad I needed to turn it off then back on to automatic. They acted like they were set to standard wipe speed and even though the windshield was now clean and the precipitation had ended they never shut off.

I then noticed that there is no intermitent setting that works. Its simply on or off. Is it the stalk that needs to be replaced? Are there any TSB's for this? I did a cursory search and this particular symptom didn't come up.

This is an old (May 2004) TSB for 2005 MY, but it sounds like it's addressing your problem - http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/LX/TSB/TSB_0801904.pdf.

It's probably a good idea to print it out and take it to your dealer. Let us know if this solves the problem.

Bailman, I had the same problem. Most likely its the wiper stock that needs to be replaced. My wipers would shut on and off using the turn signals. I noticed that stock was broken as I could slide the upper piece off of the control arm. On my new stock I am unable to do that. You can see if you are having the same problem by checking to see if the part you push in to activate the washer fluid will completely slide off by pulling on it slightly to the left. It should be securely fastened if its ok.

well here's an update.

I had the car at the dealer for about 2 days and they say it is the sensor not the stalk itself. They showed me what looked like an air bubble in between the sensor (right behind the rear-view mirror) and the windshield. Of course the parts on order for monday, we will see.

The other thing that had me wondering and I therefore asked was , if it is just the sensor why wouldn't the intermittent wipes be available as opposed to the now on/off. I mean don't the wipers have different speeds/timed swipes from how you set it on the stalk?

where is that sensor? Mine does the same thing and need to bring it to the dealer in next couple weeks for an oil change (lifetime free changes with this dealer) and plus the windshield washer isn't spraying, and yes it is full.

That's interesting they're going to replace the sensor. When you say the part is on order, it sounds like just the sensor. In the past we've been led to believe it's an integral part of the windshield and can't be removed or replaced. People have tried to remove it and ended up having to get new windshields because of distortions in the sensor to detect rain.

Can you find out what the procedure is to remove it, what glue is used to mount it and for sure if this fixes the problem? Then again the part just may be the whole windshield...humm???
