Finally got my '08 300C AWD

UPDATE: Photos have been placed in a posting in addition to the shots already in my gallery, scroll down.

Finally picked up my '08 300C AWD today to replace my '05 300C RWD off lease.

Couldn't have picked a lousier day because it was raining and miserable the whole day here.

Small but good improvements to the '05, quieter cabin and the interior, as mentioned many times already, could have been much better but I do like what they've done. Stitched leather surfaces on the door armrests and center console, the dual compartment center console is functional and while the phone holder slot right of the shift is shallower and shorter, it actually made it easier to get my phone (N95) out now compared to before.

I like the new cluster, looks nice and works well especially at night, doesn't glare as much since the center portion of the dial doesn't light up. A good "black on green" and "green on black" mix makes it look more interesting and the km/h numbers are now much easier to read.

Not sure if I'm totally used to the MyGIG yet, but I find not having hard preset buttons a pain.

Haven't tried everything yet as I had to work today but so far, it's a mix of fun and "how do I get to that function again?" experiences.

Because of the weather I didn't get any exterior shots but I did get a couple of interior pictures of the cluster and somethings new from the '05. I can get more "difference" pictures posted if there is interest, so let me know.

I'll be putting the stuff I have in my gallery.

Second time owner. That says a LOT!!! Congrats man, and let's see some pics once you get that MyGig figured out. I think that's the thing I'm most looking forward to in my Jeep.

EDIT: That and the new key. Tell us about it.

Congratulations mouserider! Your long wait was well worth it! You're one of many members who have purchased a 2nd LX. Thanks for sharing some of the new changes and I look forward to your photos.

You will love the mygig , I know I do on my 08. Kind of neat being able to download your own photo's to the screen.
Must admit that as this replaced my 05 300, I have never had a car before where the biggest challenge was finding out how to work the radio not about the controls of the car.

"Raining and miserable" is for RWD guys to worry about , not us AWDers.

Here are some pictures of items that are clearly different from my '05 RWD that I can remember. Pictures were taken a little hastily as I didn't expect it to be so cold when I walked out without a coat

Here's the new tail-light cluster, still bulbs (which I actually like) but no more amber turn signal, now the top light blinks. Also notice the integrated side marker.

The new trunk lid with the CHMSL. The crease is quite well done and does add to the lines of the car in a subtile way IMO.

As requested, here's the rims, no difference... (Update: except for the ride hight is higher than the RWDs thus the increased spacing in the wheel well.)

Front driver-side door. As you can see, the stitched leather surfaces together with the real wood trim in the handle. They moved the memory buttons a little and moulded to be more integrated with the map pocket. Map pocket is illuminated (green) when lights are on or when cabin lights are activated.

No more separate button for the fog lights, now it's push to activate. Dial for the cluster illumination/cabin lights seems to be tighter so easier to make finer adjustments.

New keyhole for the "bladeless" key.

New cruise control stalk. Push button on the end to toggle on/off. Pull towards to cancel, push away to reduce ACC (Adaptive CC) distance, the rest you can read from the labels.

New front floor mats with Chrysler and a rubber patch where you legs rest. Front passenger mat doesn't have the rubber patch.

New center console. Notice shorter (and shallower) pocket right of shift. New storage just below climate controls and exposed illuminated cupholders and finished in wood with chrome accents.

Climate control knobs now has less detent and spins more fluidly, so a little harder to get it right where you want it or without looking, IMO.

Center console open with first layer storage.

Center console open with second layer bin. There is a wide, 2 position latch to open with either the first or second layer.

Rear door, same added trims and illuminated map pocket.

Rear passenger vents, now with vent direction controls and heated seat controls.

View of rear seats from front. No more integrated antenna in the rear window and no CHMSL so 1% more visibility

Passenger side front with wood and chrome trims. Don't know why they put the Boston Acoustics badge in the one place without speakers.

Parking brake pedal, now push on, push off.

New position of "Hemi C" badge and no more chrome strip on the front quarter panel.

Side mirror with courtesy (puddle) light illuminated. Light comes on when car is unlocked or when door is open. It does illuminate the door handle and a little of the floor in the dark when the door is closed.

Side mirror with turn signal on.

New antenna, no idea why they put it so far forward, I would say it would look much better if it was closer to the rear window, it looks out of place.

Whole car. Not a nice shot, cloudy day. The color is Dark Titanium Metallic. In a bright light, the car has a reddish hue to it. I like the color, has depth.

Here's the new key with the valet key detached. You can lock the glove compartment with the blade and keep the blade so the valet can't get into that glove. The blade also unlocks the front door in case of electrical system failure. It will trip the alarm if there isn't an electrical system failure though.

Any other item or angle that you'd like to see, let me know and I'll be happy to take one.

Got to rush off to an appointment but I'll post more about the "ownership" experience when I get back.

mouserider,
Thanks for returning to post up all your great pics that show the difference between your new, 2008 C vs. the earlier Cs such as mine. I like most of the refinements that you pointed out as well. Is your steering wheel completely wrapped in leather or still wood on the upper portion?

I realize you have the AWD hence the huge gap in the wheel well. Is the Uconnect system still the same as before (having to access from the mirror)?

Still, the one thing that ruins the new 2008s more than anything else is that huge, ugly antenna. Like you, I can't believe they stuck it so close to the front of the roof. What in the world was Chrysler thinking? That ought to be fun going through a car wash...like you might be fishing for something, lol.

Anyway, get out there and drive that baby around since it's built for all kinds of weather.

bruno
