Thumbs up SIRIUS Glass Antenna - Who wants to be the "First"??

OK, Here's the deal. I recently read somewhere that SIRIUS is releasing a new GLASS antenna that mounts "inside" the vehicle on the windshield. After some Googleing, I came upon a site which discusses this being installed in a Toyota Tundra and a guy also mentions that the actual part can now be purchased.

Here is the thread I found: Click Me!

And the picture of the antenna installed:
(I lightened it up a little.)

Now...a guy on that thread said that he was able to obtain the antenna, part #999U9-VR002 at this link: Click Me!

He states that it requires a modification of the antenna plug because it is designed to be used in an OEM Nissan install, but he also states it is REAL easy to do and works just fine.
Quote:
The Nissan On Glass Antenna has a standard green housing around the adaptor that will snap into the Nissan Sirius Receiver. Once this green housing is partially removed it has the standard antenna connector under this. Just be careful when removing the green housing; I used needle nose pliers to take away small pieces at a time.
Personally, I don't have SIRIUS in my car, but I know some of you do or were considering adding it and wanted to know if/when this was to be made available. Maybe one of you wants to take the plunge here and report back to us with pictures and a review of your efforts?? I would appreciate it as I'm sure the forum would. We need this working in a Chrysler.

Just thought I would share what I found. I might get SIRIUS soon. If "I" do..I will report on what happens. If I do get it, I will try out this antenna. But if someone wants to do it "first"...please do.

Thanks for placing this in a new thread JFF! I started a new thread about this, back in Nov. I think, and an ex-Moderator chose to move my post into the Sirius sticky where it eventually got buried. Last month I re-posted here when someone was asking about alternate antenna placement. Thanks for the pic too, the antenna looks as though it would be fairly inconspicuous from outside, which is the point... no drill and no change in outward appearance = good

I'll be interested to see if someone will try this now. Since I retired and work from home, I'm not really in my car enough to justify this... but I might be persuaded.

I just looked at that area on my SRT8 and the mirror itself is mounted high up on the windshield where the antenna would go from your picture. Below that is a black box with wires going into the back of the mirror. I'm assuming the black box is for the UConnect (not sure though) so I'm wondering if the 300C with UConnect is the same as mine. If they are the same, I don't see where I could put it.

EDIT: I just looked at the picture again and it appears it's to the right of centre. Can you confirm this?

HEMEEE,

I'm glad you approve. If you do decide to attempt this, please let us know about it.

Rambit,

It does appear from the photo it IS mounted right of center. You can see that by comparing the amount of dot matrix on either side of the antenna. But I don't think it HAS to be mounted there necessarily. I would assume it could be mounted "anywhere" on the windshield one would feel is best. The 300 doesn't have the dot matrix behind the mirror like the tundra does. That black box you see underneath your mirror on our 300/SRT8's is for the "rain-sensing" wipers.

the location is where they mount the remote start. I also agree it can go anywhere. I don't have sirius..my ipod is all i need but if i did i'd rather have the ant. window mounted.

Hey thanks a lot JFF! I would have gone on forever thinking of it as "that little black box" thing. Now if only Canada would open up the US Satellite market (legally that is he he he) for us, all would be good.
