gas all over driveway pissed off

Im not going to lie to you guys, i don't know **** about cars. just the basics
anyways i bought my car from a dealership a month ago, its a 5 star chrysler dodge jeep in Vancouver.

Drive it home and its good, everything is fine. but the gas mileage is HORRIBLE im talking like 13mpg/ 20 on the freeway if im LUCKY
its a 300c, the hemi, but still it should be BETTER THAn that
LATELY ive noticed the gas light on.. so today i called the service place. They were like tighten your gas cap and drive around and if it doenst turn off we'll bring it in. SO i did, she set me up with an appointment for 830 next week, i ask for a curtiousy car and she said they dont do that, they just shuttle you back. I told when i bought my extended warrenty (its used) the guy told me i had something like 35 dollars a day for a rental or courtesy car? she said something, didnt pay attention becuase i was pissed. Go home and there is gas ALL over my driveway, i noticed it one time before too.

Is this really bad, it wouldn't just fall out if the gas cap isnt tight right?
Does Chrysler Canada give you courtesy cars when you go in while youre under warranty? Is this why my MPG are so horrible?

I dont care about going in, but if i can't get a rental than thats just ridiculous because i have stuff to do that day
thanks

Should have had them tow the car in the FIRST time you noticed a fuel leak. Can I say "dangerous" ? Never, ever operate a vehicle if a fuel leak is evident. You should have also smelled it.

Possibly the gas cap is defective and not sealing correctly. It could also do with the 'venting' of the fuel system. There were cases of 300C's that would stall after filling the tank. The problem was a faulty emission control valve that was part of the gas tank assembly. This should be covered under warranty. Even if you are past the 3/36 warranty, in the U.S. anything related to emission controls has a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty - - not sure about Canada.

Your gas mileage issue is likely related to whatever this problem is, but 13 city & 20 highway, while low, is not THAT far below what you should be getting. I get about 15.5 in town and 21 to 22 on the road, and I think that's what most are getting. You will get worse average MPG in winter due to several factors including letting your engine idle to warm up, and the possible use of "winter blend" oxygenated fuels.

As far as a courtesy car, again not sure about Canada, but in the U.S. you are entitled to a loaner car any time you take your 300 in for service during the 3 year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty period - - whether it's a warranty visit or a maintenance visit that you pay for. This was only on 2005 models, and many dealers will 'pretend' not to have a clue about this part of the warranty.

You are first person I can think of that has had a leaking gas. This is not a common problem.

Get out your extended warranty contract and read through it.
Chrysler Service Contracts
If you have the Chrysler Maximum Care extended warranty than you do get a car for $35 a day. Other extended warranties may also have a free rental

Maximum Care Extended Warranty
FIRST DAY RENTAL/CAR RENTAL ALLOWANCE:
Coverage starts on the date you purchase the Plan and is
not subject to a deductible. First Day Rental Allowance
provides $35 car rental allowance if the vehicle is to be
serviced for any same day mechanical or maintenance
service.
Car Rental Allowance will pay up to $35 per day for a rental
any time repairs take overnight, and a component covered
by the Plan or the manufacturer’s Basic Warranty fails.
Total Rental Allowance per occurrence is a maximum of
5 days or $175.
The Plan will not pay for rental charges for a vehicle that is
awaiting service or parts unless the vehicle is inoperable
due to a mechanical failure of a covered component, or
unless continued operation would cause further damage.
The rental car must be obtained from a Dealer. If a Dealer
does not have rental cars available, you may obtain one
from a licensed rental agency. Rental coverage is subject to
state and local laws and policies imposed by the rental
agency. Rental charges in excess of the amount allowed by
the Plan are your responsibility. The Plan is not responsible
for any refusal of a rental agency to rent a vehicle to you.

He is not the only one, I thought I would pop on the board to see if anyone else has had an issue, while I was waiting for the tow truck this morning. I've been smelling gas for months. Finally noticed a gas leak is just in front of the right rear tire. I assume it is a fuel line or connection issue.

10mpg probably is right. I will get around 11mpg around town.
As an FYI, you don't need 93 octane unless you are using a tuner.
89 octane is the recommended octane.

10 mpg around town? Either you have terrible driving habits or there is something definitely wrong with your car. I average 17-18 mpg around town and 23-24 mpg on the Interstate. I don't drive it like there is an egg under the accelerator, either. I enjoy steppin' on the loud pedal once in a while.

What does the inside of your exhaust tips look like? It is all black and sooty? If so, you're running too rich.
