Auto dimming headlamps

I guess this is a N.A thing only?
I don't think Euro cars can do this as to engage high beam we push the lever away from the wheel into a separate position and hence it is a mechanical process rather than electrical engagement.

Wha???

I am not sure about auto-dimming headlights..... I don't have them and have never heard of them on a 300 in any market. I may be wrong.....

Now I do have auto-on headlights that kick on as it gets dark out.

It is actually a two-step configuration. You have to "electronically" activate it through your EVIC Personal Settings, then you engage the High Beams as you would normally, by pushing the stalk towards the dash.

At this point, the EVIC shows "Automatic High Beam System On" and it starts working.

If you activate the EVIC "easter egg" diagnostic mode, and move to the "headlight" section, you will now see AH indicated, A for automatic headlight active, and H for auto high beam.

The HBduty field will show you what percentage the high-beam is currently on. 100% being full high-beam, 0% is off.

It actually works pretty darn well.

If you have auto high-beam, you will have an extra "box" in-front of your rear view, under the auto-wiper sensor that looks like a camera. That's the camera that looks for traffic in front of your car to determine if it should turn the beams off or lower it as you come up to cars ahead of you.

The system is known as "SmartBeam" from a company known as Gentex that makes automobile accessories, mainly in the form of rear-view mirror features. It is standard on all 08 300Cs and I believe also available on late model year 07s and some heritage editions.

I would like to know if i have this feature, When I unlock the car, and the lights turn on, they dip down and then up again.

but in my evic there is nothing to say that it has auto high beam.

The auto-dimming high beams work, but like the variable wipers, YMMV.
