4500rpm ?

Hi All,
New to the site took a look around already found some good info.

Car is a 300C Midnight Blue.

The other day the wife was out driving, car started and drove off fine then the rpms went to 4500 and just sat there. The car did not accelerate just the RPMs went up. Even when braking and coming to a stop rpms hung up there. She did notice a little of the car wanting to go but not an abrupt take off. Even putting the car in "N" while driving then back into gear the RPMs didn't drop. When she stopped turned the car off then restarted it every thing was fine again.

Any idea on the problem, anyone else have this issue.

She also checked the mat was not stuck on the gas peddle and she didn't even have her foot on the gas at all???

Thanks

There's no way the engine was revving at 4500 without you HEARING it, let alone feeling it.

Is the engine revving really loud??? If not, it's probably a bad gauge?? I mean, afterall if you put it in nuetral at 4500 RPMS and dropped it into drive you'd absolutely smoke the tires.

Not to mention the nanny computer that won't LET you rev that high in neutral.

Smells like a bad gauge.
