Feeling the power?

Hi all,

I've been reading and learning from these board for the past couple months, and I thank you all for sharing your experiences with these cars. I'm getting close to buying and I'm finding that I already know FAR more than the dealers do about these cars.

I test drove a used (25k miles) Touring a few weeks ago and finally was able to test a C this morning. I have to tell you... I was surprised at how underwhelmed by the HEMI I was. I could tell that it was more powerful than the Touring, but it didn't seem to be by that much.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any idea why it feels this way? Does the car just ride so nice that a lot of the "pushed back in your seat" feeling is absorbed by the suspension and cushy seats?

-Christian

Oh yea, that has been discussed. The first time that I found this forum, someone posted about the same thing.
I couldn't help my self; I ask him "are you kidding? couldn't feel the difference? I believe that was what this guy said.
There is a pretty noticable difference between the two. If you check the specs on them, I belive you will see that there is a considerable difference. I'll admit that it can be decieving. It doesn't feel as quick as the '67 GTO that I had, but it probaly is. It's certainly not a quick as the '67 GTX that I had though. That thing was a 12 sec. car.

What it is is that this car is so quiet you don't HEAR the power. The suspension isn't that mushy, and the seats aren't that cushy, but it is quiet.
Those wee 6's crank, but they make noise while they are doing it that gives one the impression of power and speed. Noise (much to the dismay of many Ricers) is not power. Also, the 300C is at a bit of a weight diadvantage as compared to the Touring.

I think you need to line up a C with a 6 banger and race....When you have 10 cars lengths on him THEN tell me there's not much of a difference.

What?! You mean the 8" OD fart cans I just put on my 300C don't make it faster? The next thing you're going to tell me is that all those sick stickers and graphics I got from Pep Boys don't help make more power either! Man, I just wasted $6.95!

The touring is an 8 second car and the C is a 6 second car, that is huge but those # are attained at WOT, anything less than 75% throttle would be difficult to tell. For example if you drive either car to 60 in 8.9 seconds which is not exactly granny driving you will not notice any difference other than the throttle position and noise. Most stoplight driving without jackrabbit starts will not show any diff. b/t the cars. Torque for passing is only used when called upon and is huge in the Hemi, cruising along all that torque is unused.
