Why worried about the tranny????

You guys worried about the stength of your tranny are crackin' me up.

O.k. so let's say an AWD edition has 500RWHP does a neutral drop and launches at 4000RPM. Yeah, that's something to worry about.

However,

All you 2 wheel drive guys could have 800RWHP and you're NOT going to hurt it.

Reason?

No traction. You need tires to plant that power and if you're not running a 10" ET street tire on a VHT sprayed track, you have NOTHING to worry about.

P.S. My ZF 6 speed is rated at about ~450lbft of torque...I know of guys with ~750RWHP pulling wheelies and running 9's with these trannies.

My disclaimer: Of course the tranny on my Mom's Ford Taurus went Kaput driving to the store and church. There's always the exception.

I agree Matt,

And when someone says the tranny is fine, they are the first ones to say there is no basis of proof...well, there's no proof it's weak either. Think about it, why would DC put 390 and 420 in a trans rated at only 427!? Every motor DC churns out has different tolerances, some could be more than 390/420 and some less...with only 7lbs to max rating, there is no room.

Said it before, and I'll say it again...the DC trans is a strong point in this ride. Air intakes, chips, headers, and exhaust will not do anything to reduce it's life, and if all the tranny's somehow get an identity crisis at 70k and start blowing..I'll eat my words.

Oh, and Matt...this ain't your momma's Taurus....

If Chrysler were confident with the tranny, and everything else on the powertrain, they wouldn't have yanked the 7/70 powertrain warranty for the 2006. I, for one, remain worried.

LOL! Word!

What people are failing to realize is that if the max torque rating for the tranny is 420lbs, that means you will have to put all of that on the tranny. There is power loss through the torque converter which will lessen the crank output received.

Also, you will have to absolutely stick the tires to put all the stress back up the drivetrain. This is impossible with the tires we have.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be worried about things failing, but this NOT usually do to stress, it's due to WEAR!

They yanked the 7/70 because they don't need the added value to sell cars IMO.

If your buying decision is based on having a 7/70 ptrain, you need to rethink your purchase of a 300.

Again, I for one, feel the 5.7 and the MB designed trans are a MAJOR selling point of this car, and 70k will just be the break-in point. Most ptrains will go a at least 200k with proper maintenance are care easily.
again, just my opinion.....and trust me, I have the worst luck with tranny's around!
My stang blew at 46k due to a $10 spring failure...$2600 out of pocket. I've paid for at least 5-6 other trans fixes in the last 15 years as well, all american made vehicles with less than 100k on them...2 in an 86 Merkur XR4Ti - at 50k and 70k.

If I buy a new tranny in my C prior to 100k, I'll be the first one on here to take everyone's heat and eat crow.

No ****!!! This is getting really old. Can't we just shelve this whole topic for a couple months until those who will do engine mods have already done them and can report back with problems, etc??

As it is, there are those who will just do it anyway and those who won't. Period.
