I think you're the first I've read that found the refractor useless. I'm sure you could have given it away on a "Pay It Forward" basis to someone else, but since you didn't find it useful that option probably didn't occur to you.

I'm 6'4", have the seat fully down and almost fully back (combined with the pedals fully forward). I position the L-I-S lens as high as possible and toward the rearview mirror. Thus with only a slight tilt of the head I can see the "near" or mid-intersection overhead traffic lights. With no tilt of the head I can see the "near" right side traffic lights. I don't need the device for the traffic lights which are "across" the intersection or on my left as those are visible throught the windshield or from my driver's side window.

They are the current day version of the old magnetic concave glass things we had when I was in college that either clipped to the sun visor, or as someone has said, stuck to the metal trim between headliner and windshield (where did those days - and costs - go?).

The average male height in the US is about 5'10" (source: Human height - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) and the average female height is 5'5", seems reasonable that most of the people complaining are probably over the average height. Everybody else probably isn't even reading this thread

That "light in sight" device is a Godsend for me. As I mentioned, I have it in all three of my cars. I just got back from lunch and was noticing again how I can see the overhead traffic lights that are way ABOVE my car - almost vertical to the windshield. Great device and it's cheap too...
