Do cops really care about dark tint?

The state law for tint in Missouri is 35% on the front windows. I'd like to go lower. Does anyone know if cops really bust people on this?

i know here in sunny side California, THEY TRIP OUT! I believe it's illegal here in California (well, were im from ) to tint the front window(s)..

Absolutely, and it is different for all states.

It doesn't really matter to me -- I'm in southern california, and I drove a pathfinder for 10 years with near-limo-tint and never got pulled over for it. When I *did* get pulled over for (usually speeding) there was no mention of the tint made. I am driving a black SRT-8 with very dark tint - if I get pulled over, I may end up getting a "fix it" ticket to have the tint on the driver-side and passenger-side windows removed - so what - I'll have them stripped, get the ticket taken care of, and the next day it goes back on. I'd consider it an operating expense. Statistically speaking, I don't plan on getting any tickets for the dark tint, and if I do, it will probably only be 1 or 2 for the time I own the car.

I even have a light tint on the windshield (yeah supposedly you can get impounded for having windshield tint, but again, I could care less since its a light tint and they'll probably never notice). It's actually great - it cuts down on the sunny glare and people can't see inside the car when they're more than 3 feet away.

I'd consider the process of getting a ticket for tint, then having the tint (temporarily) removed then re-applying the tint to be a victimless crime, for the reason that the sweeping rule of "no tint" exists is obviously the police not wanting monkey business going on (or more importantly, a gun being pulled) that they can't see when they've pulled someone over.

Since I'm law-abiding (except speed limits on empty freeways), all I do if I get pulled over (which I have once for speeding in my SRT-8 ) is put both passenger/driver windows down AS I'm being pulled over, so that the cop can see me and feel more at ease. Whether or not he wonders if I'm trying to "hide" my dark tint on the rolled down windows is his problem - at least I've put him a little more at ease which is all I care about.

over here in nyc/nj ( i live in nj now) ive had 15% tint all around on my galant i had from 98 to 01 and on my clk 320 i have from 01 to present and it has never been an issue, when i get pulled over i always roll down both front windows as well so the cops cant see it when theyre up close to the car, ive been pulled over for numerous speeding and other things and usually get out of it but sometimes i have gotten tickets but no ones ever said anything about tinting to me, does anyone know if tinting on front windows in NJ is even legal? ive been here for 3 years with the clk see tons of tinted cars but ive heard some people say they think any amount is illegal on the front windows, regardless i plan on doing 15% all around on my CV 300C when it arrives

Speaking of....has anyone seen the "reflective" tint on a C yet? I have a BB and I think it would look awesome! Someone please post picks if they have.

Like Tasha stated it's different in every state. However from a PO in Wisconsin I will tell you it's more of a safety issue, if I conduct a traffic stop and there is heavy tint on the windows, the driver is advised to roll them down before I will approach the vehicle. But in my many yrs I have never stopped anyone strictly for having tint on windows and don't know any fellow officers that have either. But again that's here in WI. Hope I answer your question!

I totally agree..I have given warnings,in the past,for tint too dark,but no actual tickets.
