Oilchange time - do you guys actually take it to dealer?

It's time for my first oil change -- since I'm still too lazy to learn how to do it myself, just curious if you guys (and gals) take your 300/300C/SRT-8's to the dealership for the 'ol $59.95 "Chrysler special" oil change, or you take it somewhere else??

Yes, the dealer because of the engine cover on the bottom. My oil change cost only $30.

the "59.95 Chrysler Special" doesn't sound too special to me. I would suggest HAVING it changed the 1st. time, on any car. The factory seems to really torque the oil filters on, and the 1st change can be a real bear.
Because of the lower engine cover. I might suggest going to the dealer, but I would check with several of them, and see if the prices don't vary some, 'dealer to dealer'.

I change mine. With the exception of the easily removed cover, the job is exactly like any other I have done. There's not too much learning involved (unless one has never done this sort of thing before).

If you do it yourself, when you buy the filter get yourself a socket-type wrench to fit the filter. Once you have the plastic cover removed you will find the filter is oriented straight up. Simply put the filter socket on a 6" or so extension on a ratchet socket wrench and unscrew it. All the factory-installed torque in the world can not resist. Spread clean engine oil around on the new filter's gasket with your finger. Start the new filter on by hand, then use the socket and ratchet to spin it up. DO NOT OVER-TORQUE when you install the new filter. Follow directions on the box: generally 1/2 to 3/4 turn of the filter after finger tight. After draining and re-filling the crankcase, start the engine and check for leaks at the filter.

I take mine to the dealer. Cost = $26.00. I don’t want to mess with it; they’re quick, efficient and know what they are doing. It also gives me a record of my maintaining the vehicle.

I go to the dealer because they fill out my maintenance book. That way I have record. Plus, I like to bother my sales guy. I'm trying to steal a Pacifica from him for my wife.

So far I have done my own, I save receipts and keep a log. $59 is not bad if they are using synthetic however my dealer only charges $19.95 so I could bring my own Mobil 1, get a discount for not using thier oil and save a few$$, considering the cost of the car, really rather silly to go to the trouble. I change my own because I enjoy it and I bond with the car and teach the kids a few tricks. The engine cover is held with 4 simple 10mm bolts.

Consider getting a Filtermag magnet, it traps the under 20 micron metal dust that passes through even the best synthetic filters. Cummins showed that particles 10 microns and less are as damaging as the over 20 micron ones.
