Do earlier model 300c's (2005) have TPMS and is it a different system than the newer models? The reason I ask is, when I went in last weekend to have my tires replaced on my 2005 300C, they offered and recommended a service to rebuild each valve. Since I only have 18,000 miles on the car and it is garage kept, I declined. The tech said the danger is that in removing the valve core to let the air out, they can break the unit. Further discussions revealed that most valve TPMS units have a metal cover on the valve stems. Mine do not, so the tech supposed I might have a "rolling resistance" system. I thought my 300c had TPMS, but now I wonder if it does. How do I verify? Thanks.
Well, if we're talking about a 2005 as you have in your profile, you don't have the TPMS system. Your valves are the common dog normal valves I have.
Sounds to me they either didn't know your car didn't come with it or they're trying to suck you into the TPM's that won't do a thing for you because the TPMS didn't come out till 2006.

For some strange reason TPMS was introduced for the US models only in 2006 (the European models got TPMS since 300C introduction). It can be retrofit using the junk yard supply :-)
Thanks for the feedback and information. This confirms what I found by checking my original equipment list (window sticker). My 2005 does not have TPMS. I guess assumed it did because it has pretty much all of the options except the dvd player. Just to clarify one point though, it was not the tire tech who told me I had TPMS and needed the service, it was me who told them I had TPMS and did not think the rebuild was necessary. However, until I pointed out I had normal valve stems, he did not correct my error and tell me I did not have TPMS. Mystery solved. Thanks again for the help.

I would think the reason the European models had it was due to it being mandated by law over there. It's funny because the 2005 Jeeps had the TPMS system here, yet the 300 didn't.
I just bought a used 2006 Limited AWD 3.5L. Does all of the 2006 models have TPMS standard or was it an option? What would I need to do to have it installed? Is it something I can do myself ?

Even funnier most Pacificas had TPMS (first model year 2004, manufactured from March 2003).

TPMS (with individual readouts including spare tire) was introduced on the 2002 Grand Cherokee. It was a great system as it could be easily added to pre-2002 Jeep models.
I "discovered" that our 2006 Heritage Edition had TMPS on our inaugral road trip to SoCal. I disctinctly remember as we were going across Missouri I was cycling through the EVIC pages and came across tire pressures. I couldn't believe it because I hadn't ordered that "option" and was not expecting it due to the lack of it on the 2005 model we also had at the time.
