side door trim removal...

I would like to remove the trim on the sides of my 06 srt8. Does anyone know if there are any holes that would need to be filled or how much of a pain in the a** this would be?

there are many threads discussing this......the search function can be very usefeul. but to answer your question no there are no holes....the molding is simply held on by double stick tape and is fairly easy to remove. make sure to use a heatgun or at least a blowdryer to help soften up the tape before and during removal. whatever residue is left can easily be removed by the palm of your hand in a rubbing motion. good luck

i want to do this also, but fear that there will be paint discoloration. i removed the badge from my trunk, and you can still see a 'foggy' outline of where the badge used to be. i hope i will not run into this problem with my door mouldings. seems like would be alot more noticable and costly to paint/repair.

i used goo-gone to remove some of the residue on my trunk, do you think that could have left a discoloration of the paint? ill post a pic so you can see what im talkin about if you wish.

I removed the molding from my black SRT-8 yesterday.
I let the car, and me, sit out in the hot sun while I did it.
I ran a piece of fishing line behind the molding and, while holding both ends, "sawed" the pieces off.
Someone suggested that they could be pulled off, but it was holding on a little too well, for me.
After I severed the 3M tape on the back, I rolled the leftover adhesive off of the car with my thumb. No goo-gone necessary.
I did go through about 10 different pieces of fishing line.
I do have a blister on my thumb today.
I did use goo-gone to remove the different adhesive from behind the rear SRT-8 badge. (After I sawed it off)
It did slightly fade a bit so I stopped using it.
My neighbor had an automotive adhesive remover, which did the trick for the 2 side badges.
The side of the car is immaculate. Not detectable that they were ever there.
If it were not for the goo-gone, the back would be the same way.

I used a $30 heat gun from Home Depot and an old credit card. Make sure not to use detailing compounds or heavy polishes on new paint -bad idea (I used to own a car detailing company years ago).

Removing both side mouldings took me about 30 minutes.

The end result is classic.

I had my body/paint shop remove the side emblems for me, after I removed the one from the rear decklid...it was a PIA.

It took me about thirty minutes or so, as the automotive 3M tape certainly did its job by 'holding its ground'. I too used 'Goo Gone', but can't verify that the hazy film merely resulted from the use of this product on my car's finish. I use 'Goo Gone' quite a bit, and its always worked extremely well without a problem. Like the others, I too 'rolled-off' the remaining adhesive and also received the same blister(s).

Not wishing to experience this entire ordeal all over again (for each of the side emblems), I decided to take my car to my body/paint shop...who had been so helpful in the past. I explained to the owner what I had just gone through, as well as what I now wanted to have done. He advised that it would not be a problem since they utilize a 'special' automotive emblem removal knife to literally cut-away the emblem/automotive 3M tape from my car's painted surface. He also said that the hazy film I saw is usually present after tape removal...some sort of chemical reaction inherent to the tape, I guess. He said that they have a special automotive adhesive remover which removes this stuff without harming the car's finish.

Well, no sooner did I finish my cup of coffee, when they pulled my car back up front with the emblems removed and with no sign of that hazy film present anywhere...they even removed it from the rear decklid for me. Best of all, it didn't cost me a cent, plus they even gave me a free car wash...wow! I guess I should've gone to them initially...it certainly would've saved me time, frustration, and a painful blister.
