Okay, I became the victim of the "pink thingy" this past weekend. Fortunately it happened in my drive way. The BT replacement part is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I've read all the threads on this issue I could find but in none have I seen the procedure for removing the shifter knob. Does it just screw off? (On my 300M there was an allen head set screw that you removed and then the knob just slipped off.)

Just twist it counter-clockwise until it breaks loose, and just unscrew. That's what I did on my 06 5.7L before I had my SRT. WARNING: I'm not sure if on later models they used some type of fastener, so take a look around the bottom of the shifter knob JUST to be sure, before you start twisting. It's on there pretty tight, if memory serves.
EDIT: try to memorize how many turns it takes. Although the shaft is made of steel, you don't want to exceed the turns, and risk stripping the threads inside the knob. (which I'll assume may be plastic)

Mine in my 06 just twisted off. The instructions on BT's site say there is a set screw, so maybe someone on here will know where it would be, and what years may have it.

Depending on the build date of your 07 it could be either the unscrew method or pushing the ring downward. When was your car built?

Come to think of it, have we not all been the victims of a pink thingy of sorts, at one time, or another?
<Staff Edit: You already knew your innuendo would be removed>
Were you successful in removing THEE leather shifter from the steel shaft....Rod...... Oh snap!.... Did you disassemble the shifter assembly? I tried to remove mine from my 07. Build was in April- I can't get the collar to slide down- not with my hand anyway. I tried out of curiosity. <------- I give up!
After breakfast this morning I went out and pulled the console. I had just finished removing the shifter assembly when the UPS guy drove up with my new "aluminum thingy" from BT. Forty-five minutes later everything was all back together and good to go.
(And, yes, my shifter knob is the push on kind with the retaining ring. Simple to remove.)

Thanks for everyone's help.
Too late now I guess... but you didn't need to spend $50 or whatever on the BT replacement for the "pink thingy". All you had to do was remove it. It doesn't need to be there unless you have trouble remembering to put your car in park.
