Not making any rationalizations or excuses, or justifying my opinion. I love fast cars. I bought one (my 300C), and have built/am building one (my Stang). On the street - if someone thinks they have to beat mine to be bigger - go ahead, my ego can take it...

"Racing" on the street or freeway is just plain dangerous - there is no debate on this.

Rule of thumb, if a cop saw you do it, and you think you'd get pulled over?? Well...I haven't been ticketed but once in my 21 years of driving....and according to some friends..I drive like a D!ck. (knock on a BIG peice of Wood here now for me that this is posted)

I'm not saying to drive it like a Prius, drive it safe and drive it hard - you CAN do this safely on the streets without racing anyone. Just HOW hard is the debate...not street racing.

No, not everyone here has done it. I have never been in a car race in my life. Nothing wrong with the 0-50 stop light race? Really? Thats how my Mother got hit. Car that was racing hit another car that veered off into my moms car. Nothing wrong with it?

"why did you by a 340 HP car?"...... 3 reasons.
1 - the looks. The 300C doesnt look like the base or touring models.
2 - a more powerful car can often get you out of trouble on the streets.
3 - the resale value.

Great posts here on a worthwhile subject. As the popularity of "street racing" continues to grow law enforcement is taking a tougher stance. The Traffic Safety commission of Washington just released a training DVD called "Street Racing Kills". While I agree that street racing enforcement efforts should continue, I think safety budgets would be better put to use concentrating on drunk driving, which kills hundreds of times as many people as street racing does. It all boils down to common sense, knowing when to hold 'em and knowing when to fold 'em.

The SRT track experience was a brilliant idea by DCX, I bet other manufacturers are kicking themselves for not thinking of it first. More and more tracks are increasing the number of events for street car racing, good news for those fortunate enough to live close to one.

Oh yeah, one thing that I forgot to mention. My 22yr. old son DOES NOT get the keys to this 300C of mine. He gets to drive it ONLY with my wife or me riding with him.
He can be pretty responsible, but I don't trust his restraint.

[quote=vvv90]I'm not supporting street racing here, but I gotta ask....Considering what you said...[quote=vvv90]

Why did everyone buy a 340+ HP Hemi 300 then?

Street racing, to my mind can be separated from stoplight bursts in appropriate conditions. A stoplight Grand Prix can be fun if done in a friendly manner. Street racing does not take into account the safety of either driver or any other people around.

Street racers run red lights, care not about the rights of pedestrians and carry on shenanigans for long periods of time through occupied streets or highways putting a number of people at risk.

I would also place Scud Running in this category. I see it all the time on the Garden State Parkway (I live on the Jersey Shore). Cars of similar type that seem like they are traveling together or have just decided to glom on to each other, 3 or 4 or more cars weeving in and out of traffic taking risks with my life because why?

Those things are different to my mind from a little 0-60 on a clear piece of road. But maybe they aren't. I bought the HEMI because I like to have power in excess. I take long road trips. Bigger powerful engines are quiet and understressed. That's just the way I like to feel behind the wheel. The HEMI offers great passing power (which can save your ass sure enough as a good set of brakes). HEMI is not a license to be an *******. If you think it is, YOU go get a Prius.

I think you just posted a good dissertation on the different kinds of activity that are exponentially dangerous.

Street racing can be so many different things.

But again I will point out YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE SPEEDING WITH ANOTHER CAR for it to be considered dangerous.

Kidcoastal for example, he doesn't race and practices what he preaches I respect that.

What I don't respect is someone getting on my case for doing essentially nothing really different. They speed alone, I'm still speeding and breaking the law, I just happen to have another guy next to me doing the same thing.

BOTH EXAMPLES ARE ILLEGAL!

Furthermore, about the 0-50 sprints, if the speed limit is 50 and so long as you don't squeal your tires you're NOT breaking the law in most states. There is no written law about how fast you can accellerate, and it's usually up to the discretion of the officer. If taken to court the charges can be dropped. If someone gets into an accident doing this they've simply MADE A MISTAKE and are not using thier brain.

I can't help but bring up the fact the SIMPLY DRIVING is dangerous. How stupid would I sound if I said. "Ok, I'll never speed again, or race, therefore I'll NEVER get into an accident."

I hate to point out the obvious but just driving is dangerous. Speeding increases the risk but like someone already pointed out, drunk driving is more dangerous. Not only that, but new research is finding people who are overly tired or fall asleep at the wheel combined cause even MORE accidents than drunk drivers!

What it comes down to is use common sense and know your driving ability. Drive defensivly and always be thinking ahead.

We all hold ours and others' destiny in our hands when we take the wheel. Nobody is safe at any time on any street.

Oh, that hurts! It's my wife's car, though...and I did beat a '99 Mustang GT on my 16.766 run (seriously, but then a girl was driving the GT, so anything is possible).

It's sad you scorn him for racing on a track, oh well.. If you read you own thread you would see that.
