Total Recall

I have no recollection of EVER breaking the speed limit or any other law.

Honestly, Your Honor, Officers, Ladies and Gentlemen, and esteemed DCX Employees: I bought my car for nice easy cruising.

Any threads or posts to the contrary are pure fiction.

I have several upstanding citizens who witnessed me not breaking the law.

lol cbutler 2 things to be said..

1. I never thought anyone ever aimed the thread at me, I just thought it was kinda.. funny I guess? Serious but.. yah
2. Hrmm.. oh yeah increasing the statistics.. muwahhaha

Dan: Do you cover up your speedometer with a piece of paper or something or just not look at it much? I can think of several cases where I've broken the speed limit..

1. Getting on freeway, keeping eyes on where I am in between cars and making sure I don't hit anyone nor anyone hits me

2. School zones. Roast me, but it's hard to tell when to do 25 and when not to -- in certain spots anyway. Out here the school is in a valley on the side of a big hill with the road going down the hill. The school zone limit kicks in "when children are present" but you can't really see any unless they're walking home -- then I'll gladly slow down.

Worse yet, It's a 35 normally, and I've watched taxi drivers and all sorts of other cars fly by at 50. O_O I love to slow down to 25 here and watch people come up behind me and act all angry. lol.

The beauty in it is there's a few areas where when wet, well -- water piles up towards the center divide (between the 2 lanes and the oncoming 2 lanes) -- a person who was giving me a ride almost crashed the car into the island in the center because they were going too fast and hit a puddle of water there. Ironic, eh?

Hrmm.. Oh yeah, 3. When there aren't any speed signs for a looong distance!

And lastly, when there's contrasting signs. I kid you not, one time I drove down a street that had 40 and 25 signs next to each other. Everyone was doing 45, go figure.

In the right conditions (good weather, clear visibility, and very light/no traffic) I'm definitely not against the "let's see how quick I can get up to the speed limit" stuff.. You just have to pay extra attention that nobody's crossing the street

That's not funny at all. The ticket you got was for driving so slow. You're a discRACE to the SRT RACE! You need to pick up the pace a little. Jeez is there no hope anymore?...hehe.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A car racing another vehicle through the streets at up to 90 mph veered out of control and crashed through the front doors of a health clinic Friday, injuring 13 people, six of them critically, authorities said.

Emergency workers rushed to treat the victims in a chaotic scene of gore, screams and shattered glass, with the black Nissan ZX still inside the clinic.

"You just saw bones and blood all over," said Ana Rodriguez, a medical assistant at a clinic across the street.

Dr. Amani Eldessouky, who works across the street, said she saw a woman whose legs had been severed, another woman who lost one leg and a man bleeding profusely from the head. "It was a terrible scene. I wanted to start shaking," Eldessouky said.

Witnesses said the Nissan and a Lincoln Town Car were racing through a South Los Angeles business district when the Lincoln clipped the Nissan, sending it off course, police Lt. Paul Vernon said. The Lincoln drove off.

The driver of the Nissan, Ijumaa Owens, 33, of Los Angeles, was taken into custody and could face reckless driving charges, or vehicular manslaughter if anyone dies, Vernon said. The occupants of the Lincoln were wanted for hit-and-run, he added.

A deputy police chief initially said Owens appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, but Vernon later said that did not appear to be the case.

Owens' mother told KABC-TV in an off-camera interview that her son denied to her that he was racing or driving under the influence.

Ten of the injured, including two children, were taken to hospitals. Two of those victims were released later Friday.

Six victims were in critical condition, said Fire Department Assistant Chief Ralph Terrazas.

Be Safe

There are always ways to have Fun, some say take it to the track, that's all fine, yet there are Hundreds of other cars there and you may not be able to run your buddy.
There are always country places or roads where things like this have been done for decades, it's nothing New, has been going on since before i was born and the fella's i learned alot of my Car and HP stuff from were those guys who Street Raced back in the 50's 60's and 70's They didn't do that on a populated street near houses or businesses.

Is any Street Racing Safe,,, Hell NO, anything can always happen and thats the Same for the Track . Yet, there's this thing called common sense that's all to often a unused portion of our brains when High Hp engines and cars get involved. If conditions are as safe as can be, with no traffic and by-standers, only racers involved limited to a handful of people who usually grudge race with eachother after a mod here or tires and gears, whatever the upgrade. I remember the Sherrifs back home in the country Closing a Co. Rd. to have Street Bike & Hot Rod races for an entire day of day-light, with Barricades and all. The road was closed to traffic all together. Now if that's not preparing and taking precautions to have fun and keep innocent people out of harms way then,,, those who disagree will never understand. Until we are without Fast cars, there will always be racing.

YET this Young Irresponsible Era of kids, just don't think about their own future or the lives of others that become involved when things don't go as planned. That isn't what i'm promoting or condoning, i can't say i haven't had my amount of fun in a place where it isn't right, yet i know what the speed limit is and usually don't go much above 10over that, with that said, there needs to be more education to teach younger people who have a desire to race to keep it either at the track or an organized event, where safety is an issue and for most the track is the only place to get that.

I have been guilty of Racing a local Police Officer, 4am at a light, he rolls his window down,,, not a soul on the road except our two cars.... My Cobra Mustang with lots of Mods vs His Squad car,, he asked to,, get on it so he could hear my car and I wasn't going to disappoint.. For the most part that was so much fun, i later met that officer at a local speed shop getting Header and Exhaust put on his Personal Crown Vic. Cops know whether your a punk just causing trouble or a HotRod guy just enjoying life. when your cruising down the road in a Total Custom 55 BelAir, Pro-Streeted with a Modified 502 and lots of TQ & HP, people just get excited to hear that thing when you get on it a little, Not Racing, just having a little Fun. That's what Most of us here do, have a little fun and hopefully correcting our little mistakes along the way, without affecting others.

Racing has evolved from Modded T-Buckets, which are still out and as fun as ever to the 55 Chevy's and Hemi Cuda's , I can go on and on. People just have to be smart and take precautions to not affect others.

IF your on a Co Rd, the Sherriff will say its time to go home.

If your on a City Street, YOUR Going to JAIL and LOSING your CAR.

Woudn't be fun to pay on a Car that is now Property of your Local PD.

I have to say there are many good points on this thread. The guy I quoted is right on. Street racing is dangerous. But - so is the other stuff that I see every day happening on the highway - Cell phones, eating, doing your makeup at 70mph, reading a book or newspaper (also at 70mph), drinking, pickup trucks overloaded with pallets and other crap falling off of them, playing video games on a illegal dash mounted tv, stopping before making a right turn into a driveway, driving 55 in the hammer lane, you name it - I've seen it. Dangerous as hell - and can get you killed just as quick as a quick stoplight to stoplight race. I have to confess to a couple myself, the cell phone and the eating ones. I am also not an angel - I tend to go over the speed limit on the freeway and will show a ricer who is boss over a short distance. You people who say you never break the law in your 345 HP 300C are lying ! Not to mention need to have a little fun in your life.......

I agree that most street racing is dangerous in populated areas, and when teenagers that have no fear or respect for anyone, do it in populated areas. Take it to the track. But don't bash all the rest of us who jump on the gas every once in a while for fun, and have the experience and common sense to control it!
I'm 40 years old, have raced on the street and the track at one time or another, have driven semi's and dump trucks for a living, and have done all kinds of crazy stuff in my younger years. All this adds up to enough experience that allows me to speak on this subject, I think!
