Some info on tranny capability...

Not sure if this has been posted or if this subject has been beaten to death, but if we are running basically the same 5 speed tranny as MB cars, check the third paragraph of this...

You mean we got an "archaic" tranny?

Wow! I thought it would be bad news but it's actually good news.

There's nothing wrong with "archaic" transmissions, the Chevy Turbo 400's that have been around for 40 years are still used to propel cars down the track in the single digit ET's.

796 Foot Pounds!!! Nice.....I'm sure our internals aren't as beefy, but still nice to know the potential if anyone wants to modify theirs to be AMG capable.

Jketron, this is good news for you.

"Basically the same"??
They are the same design but are sourced from different manufacturers. I doubt Chrysler requested the same load capability as AMG does. I have not been able to confirm this but I worked in the automotive forging industry making CV joints. I know we sold the same design to Chrysler and Honda. The Honda parts where from better bar stock and machined with bigger radii and the boots where made of a different material. We did this because Honda’s test requirements where more difficult to pass.
This cut our cost by $2.00 per Chrysler shaft. I have no idea if we passed that on to Chrysler.

Maybe Chrysler did not skimp on the trans. But if Chrysler test the trans at 500ft-lbs, I doubt the vendor would build it to take 700. Every penny counts.

There’s only one way to find out. I hope they can handle that much power.

I agree with you that this is probably the case. It is good to know though that 800lb tranny parts are available, albeit for a potential heft premium, but available if you want to make youre tranny more stout like the AMG's.
