Is This Mileage OK?

From Cedar Point Ohio to Chicago 95 degrees A/C on with 4 people going about 80 most of the time. The MPG readout showed 20.0

The best mileage I've ever seen is 21.4mpg at 70mph with cruise control the entire time. On a road trip to Arizona last week from Los Angeles, I got 19.2 with the AC on full at about 90mph most of the time.

You're on par with the rest of us

Not trying to be rude or anything, but who cares?????? If you want a car for mileage, go buy a 4 cylinder import. You own a HEMI V8 ...as Dr. Phil would put it "it ain't about the mileage!!!!"

Just my $0.02,

Shooter

It astounds me that my 40-year-old Chrysler with a big block V8 and four barrel carb gets better mileage on the highway than a new 300C with MDS. Just amazing. It gets 22-23 mpg at 70 mph, no cruise control, no AC (windows down or windows and top down).

I have no idea how that is possible. My car even weighs a lot more.

dutch..

are the tyres the same width as the current chrysler 300Cs? Maybe its the rolling friction that accounts for the diff?

Dutch, your Newport doesn't have any of the smog control crap on it. It was built when they did things the old-fashioned way; hot spark, high compression, nice advanced spark.
Emissions consisted of a PCV Valve.

I had a 1966 300 with a 383 4 barrel carb 727 trans. it only got 8 miles to the gallon . And it was new had it for three years trade it in for a 70 Challenger. So it is hard for me to believe that kind of mileage you say you are getting with a 40 year old car.

Hey Dutch, check this out! I owned it about 20 years ago. Don't think it ever got more than 17mpg (premium) if I was lucky. Also about 2 seconds slower in the 1/4.

Wow that's a nice 300!

moddog, my Newport has some key benefits for mileage your 300 didn't have. Your 300 had a 3.23 rear end and (if it was stock) a Carter AFB carb. My Newport isn't stock - it's a factory 2-bbl engine, rebuilt with a 204/214 cam, and a Carter Thermoquad carb. It also has a 2.76 rear end. The spreadbore carb makes a huge difference in gas mileage because the primaries are so tiny.

I have used a variety of cheap tires on it, all of them 215/75/14 whitewalls up until last year when I put 15" Cragar wheels on it.

BTW if your car only got 8 mpg something was wrong with it. Or, maybe you had a 440. I don't think I've ever gotten under 11 with mine (except the one tank where I got 6, but I wasn't exactly driving normally for that one).

I also don't think I mentioned that the car gets 12-13 around town, so it only gets decent mileage on the highway. I'm certainly not saying it always gets 23 mpg.
