Sorry I bought it

I purchased a 2005 Chrysler 300 Touring in Feb of 05. It was mfg in Oct of 05. I hate to say it but it was the biggest mistake of my life! Trouble, nothing but trouble. I have been to Chrysler and they will do nothing but suggest I purchase more warranty. The car is a lemon. My first concern is the engine. Start the car when it is cold...i.e. below freezing and it has sat all night and for the first few seconds the hydraulic valve lifters make it sound like a diesel...tap tap tap. Chysler says this is normal. Rattles several had to be fixed and more have since appeared. Then the steering issues started. Alignment...what alignment pulled like crazy from day one, had to have it realigned fortunately under warranty. Moonroof very noisey and Chrysler had to add clips to the moonroof to stop the excessive noise. Front end issues with car shaking if brakes applied. After two sets of rotors and pads they finally got that working right. Lights not working properly (dimming then going very bright so they flashed the computer to fix that problem. Very hard steering in cold. More warranty repairs. Oh yes the well known transmission issue again a warranty problem. Nearly 55,000 KMS and the trouble really starts. Hear a lound clunk in front left. Told it is a rod of some sort and take it in for warranty repair only to find out both the left and right rods are gone and need replacement. At the same time the steering rack is shot and it needs replacement. While I like the folks at the dealer and they do try so hard to make things right, they shutter when they see me coming cause it is probably something else wrong.

And....all Chrysler can say is buy more warranty. What about my time and expense of always having to take this vehicle in for the repairs? No one but me pays for that.

The sad part is I still like the car. Best car I ever had, nice ride, super looks, powers not bad for a 6, but I simply cannot afford to upkeep this car on a retirement income with everything that is going wrong.

What is the answer? Chrysler let me out of the lease with no penalty and give me a super deal on a new one as my mistake was I bought a first year car.

As it now stands I must say I am sorry I bought it, and cannot advise others to purchase the same thing as Chrysler simply does not stand behind their lemons once warranty passes.

hmmmmm, more rack/tie rod problems. what the heck is going on?? Besides my car, i have heard at least 5 people talk about their tie rod/rack-pinion problems in the past 2 weeks! its not like we have 100,000 miles, im hearing about problems with just 15,000-30,000 miles, thats just ridiculous

glad to hear you got out of that lease with no penalty..

I'd talk to a lawyer about trying to lemon law it. If nothing else it'll at least get DCX moving on making you happy so they don't have to pay you.

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the forum. Here, at least, your concerns will get listened to by the members.

Where are you located - Canada or the US?

The term "lemon" really depends on the state you live in. Many states require specific number of visits for a specific problem etc.. Ask your lawyer.

Or your State's attourney general, go to your states website and search for the "lemon law" that way you can see what specifics your state demands.

I know this all to well as I had DCX buy back a Chrysler Town&Country Mini-Van. It is a pain in the butt to do, but it can be done.Just make sure you keep all the paperwork and be very organized before you attempt to use the word "lemon"

Very sorry to hear of your troubles Bob... but I have an earlier 300C than you, and am happy to say it is a gem. Build date was June '04, and original purchase date (not me) was Aug. '04. We bought it Certified Pre-owned at our local dealer at end Sept. '05, with 14.5k miles and have not had one lick of trouble with it. Now over 29k miles.

Maybe it's the 3.5L model, or maybe you just got a bad car... those things happen. I guess with all the troubles you've had, I might have been discussing lemon law long before now, but that requires repetition of the same problem (I think) without resolution.

As it is with a purchase date of Feb. '05, you should still be under the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty, and you have the benefit of the longer powertrain warranty that buyers of the '06 models didn't get.

I realize it takes time out of your schedule to go to the dealer, but you did indicate that you're retired... so I'm not sure I understand the "time and expense" issue, particularly if everything is covered under warranty.

Best thing I could suggest is trade it now for a 300C, and put all those problems behind you.... you could get a great deal on an '05 C until they're all gone.

Exactly Husker, I think here in VA you have to give them 3 chances to fix the SAME problem... My parents are currently in the process of lemoning their RV but it's for various problems over the course of a year and a half. So, like i said before, it's probably a good idea to consult a lawyer that's well versed in this subject.

Good luck!!!
