I saw these packed tips at Auto Zone and Murrays today. They had some nice ones huge ones to tiny ones. So how you likin the sound its been a few weeks.
Could i run the exhaust with out the pipes to here the sound or would i have to have the new pipe to hear what it would sound like with out the resanators? Just as a test before the finale set up?
Scarbrs, I would think you'd get a pretty good idea doing as you say. I haven't seen much change in the sound from the tips so far, but you gotta understand this car rarely gets over 30 to 50 miles on it a week (Depending on how many trips to the tiki bar ) so it may be a while before mine "burn-out". You may even find that you just want to run the pipes straight back with a regular plain tip.

I made 3 video clips with sound so you can hear the sound with the resonators off. I'm using a little digital camera and not experienced at videography - hope it gives you at least some idea:
Thanks Northern,You helped me make my mind up about what exhaust Mod I'll be doing this Monday.I'm leaning toward 4" oval tips, but will wait to see what they'll lokk like first.

I went to two different Midas shops to get my resonators removed, and I was quoted $200 at one and $400 at the other. Needless to say, I haven't had the work done yet. I don't know of any reputable shops in the area, but my search continues.

OUCH !!! __ WTF___ !!!
I had my entire exhaust system from the suitcase back pulled out.The suitcase was replaced with 2 FLO _ MASTER dual chamber mufflers. Then Mandrel bend S/S pipes straight back to 3 1/2 polished S/S tips with double welds ( all painted). TOTAL COST IN 7 OUT = $ 441.00, and I have the OEM system in the loft over my garage. This was done by Lou's custom exhaust, unarguable the best Quality in the New England Area.Marty in North Reading can bend pipe in his sleep !
My cost for the resonator removal and installation of tips was about $110 total including the "glasspack" tips which were $58 for two and took Rob at muffler man less than an hour to do. (And the resonators can be welded back on with a simple coupling if I decide to go back to stock). Maybe the tips they were using were VERY expensive ones?
im still looking for a good dual tip? the only one i can find that i like is this borla one, but its $98 just for one of them....which sort of defeats the purpose of a 'cheap' exhaust mod, lol.
I got a referral to go to "Charley's" in Yucca Valley. Charley charged me $80 to remove my resonators and keep my stock tips. Took him about 45 minutes. The change in sound is exactly what I was looking for. Not so much that the wife's nagging would be louder than the exhaust, but just enough to remind me that I've got alot more HP than most other cars on the road. The is a very noticible increase in volume during slow acceleration from about 1400-2200 RPMs. WOT sounds just a little louder, and there is hardly any change while just cruising.
Just an update on the Wifey test ( I gave it the granddaddy of all tests). We went grocery shopping, and as we were putting the bags in the trunk, I hit the remote start.Lorraine said " Gee was it always this loud ?". I went on to explain that with unrestricted air in and unrestricted exhauet out fuel economy would be better. She agreed and that was that.
I am one lucky Bugger ! ( On the other hand, I wonder what this is going to cost me)

Glad you're happy with the mod, Charlie. As to what it's goin' to cost you in the wifey dept. - well, I only promised that the exhaust mod was inexpensive!
