Anyone know how to remove the ashtray...

and the heated seat surrouns directly to the left and right of it? I was trying to remove something w/ acetone(fingernail polish remover) and it melted the paint off the ashtray and the two pieces directly to the sides of it

So now I wanna take the pieces off to completly remove the paint w/ acetone but I dont wanna screw up anything else(that's why I want to remove them).

Come on peoples... I know you guys are smart and just about everything you can do to a 300 has been done on this board. So somebody please help me out!!! Thanx

Try pulling it out and then lift it up.

remove the little mat in front of the ashtray (you can do this with your fingers).
Then put your fingers on the roof of the ashtray cavity and pull out.
this video, while dark, may help.

Take the little rubber mat in front of the ashtray off, remove the two screws. Remove the chrome ring around the shifter and pull out the shifter bezel, it is tight but it does snap out. You can now put a finger under the ashtray and pull it out, it can also be tight but does snap out.

There are 4 clips holding it in, 1 in each corner. It just pops right off. You may find it easier to remove the piece around the shifter and the radio bezel first though. I just had everything apart last weekend to install a display.

You guys are awesome!!!

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone!!! I'll be sure to try it ASAP!!!

BTW, very, very, very nice and clever install on the ipod kit on both the ashtray and the toggle button below the ignition(you're giving me ideals!!!!).
