How Important is Adhesion Promoter?

Hey guys, I just recieved my woodkit, and started putting it on, and only got the driver and passenger side doors done before I ran out of adhesion promoter. I went to all the stores around here and no one even knows what that stuff is, so I ordered a box of the packets of 3M adhesion promoter (hopefully it's the same as the tube) but I was just wondering if this stuff is 100% required for every piece. Thanks!

I would strongly suggest you wait until you get some more adhesion promoter. I bought the engine cover trim kit and the chrome HEMI letters, so luckly they sent me two packets of adhesion promoter. My pieces would not glue properly if I didn't apply a liberal coating of the promoter.

Alright, I thought so, becuase the doors stuck fine with it, but I tried one piece without it, and it wouldn't stick for anything.

Clean real good first with isopropyl alcohol. Let area dry. Use adhesive promoter on the small strips on the door and where the pieces bend to fit on the airvents on the left and right sides of the dash top, etc.

Not really needed for the straight dash pieces and consoleexcept for those that have to bend to fit the curves of the console.

MOST IMPORTANTLY BE PATIENT

I got the 179 piece kit. It took me three Saturday mornings 2 hours each am to finish. Line up and do dry run before peeling and sticking so you know exactly where the piece is going to line up.. Once it's on, IT's ON!

Chas

Chasb: Hmm...The piece that's on the surface of the rear door, lik eth one in your picture, I tried to lay that one down without adhesion promotor, and it would just come back up. For some reason, my pieces don't seem that sticky at all, and I've heated them up with a hair dryer and everything. I think i definately also need it on all the rough surfaces, like above the glovebox, and on the doors and whatnot, correct?

I may have ben lucky with some of my pieces . Did you clean throughly with the alcohol. Definitley on the door arm rests

I also did mine in the summer so I laid my sheets out in the sun, making them very pliable. That is better than the hair dryer.

ALso found that if you run out of promoter, you can use 3m spray-on glue for matte and artwork. (Spray a little on a piece of plactic and use a small detailing brush to spread it-don't spry it direclty in the car)
I can't find the can to give you the exact name) but it works pretty well.

The sound dealer installed it for me. They had to remove the face plate and the braket fits nicely underneath.

They also ran the magnetic antenna around ond onto my roof with no visible cabling/wiring. It works great and now also serves double duty as a mounting plate for the suction cup disc for my Garmin NUVI 360 GPS unit when the Sirius isn't plugged into it.

I was able to get extra tubes from E-Dash.
